Forest Hillbilly in a hidey-hole 21 Aug 22 5.20am | |

AJ loses by a marginal decision last night against Usyk. Most commentators thought Usyk was a worthy winner and AJ ran out of steam relatively early, except for a late surge in the 9th. AJ just seems to lack the tools to deal with awkward opponents, and appears to have a limited toolset which doesn't seem to include the killer instinct. It won't be about money (they'll be plenty of that), as much as legacy in uniting all the belts. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (21 Aug 2022 5.22am)

Shame as he’s a decent bloke and was good for the division but certainly, whether it’s passion or ability, I think his time has come and we move on.

It's good though, isn't it, that a bloke who has been serving his country in the face of an invasion was given leave to compete AND managed to win?

I'm still wondering how one judge gave it to Joshua. He won one round, with two about even at best. It wasn't close. Joshua has been exposed for what he always was. A bang average boxer with a big punch. People have often wondered if the size of modern heavyweights would overcome smaller champions of the past. The answer was a little clearer after last night. You have to be big and very good to beat someone smaller and very good. Imagine how easily Ali,Tyson,Forman,Holmes, Lewis, Frazier Holyfield and plenty of others would have beaten Joshua. Usyk is a good boxer, but not that good.

I think he beats most heavyweights out there, however Uysk, in terms of pure boxing skill and speed, is just better than the other heavyweights. That said, I think AJ....once again, took the wrong tactical choices in both Uysk fights. In my view he had to close the distance and fight a 6 round fight to knock the guy out. He had the size and power advantage but decided to box both times. The results of a boxing match with Uysk is only going one way. It will be interesting to see if Fury takes up the challenge.....it is only a few days before the WBC force him to make that decision on his belt.....that will be the real deal on whether this retirement is serious or not.
