With diversity there never seems to be an end game. You never hear stories congratulating England on the over representation of certain groups in certain sports. For example, there's never a story such as, 'England unlikely to be that racist as it's football team is 40% diverse' or 'England's rugby team proud to have had many players of other races'. It's always how racist everyone apparently is when someone says so about something. Then the band wagon starts rolling. There is no recognition of achieving anything. When you read the news or watch Sky Sports News you'd think people are chucking bananas or hurling racist abuse. I haven't seen that for years, I would say decades but did see it in Ireland about ten years ago. Maybe others have? Certainly seems rife on Sky Sports News.

Identifying as ‘English’ and wanting to represent the national team should be the only requisites after legal compliance in my book.

All of my grandparents plus the old man moved to England, mum was born here, and I happily throw on a green shirt on certain occasions however I was born in lewisham hospital, fortuitously survived and identify completely as English just with a very proud acknowledgment of my Irish heritage.

Being ‘Black’ or anything else has nothing to do with the price of fish in my book. If you want to play for the national team and are good enough, that’s all that counts. Start criticising a team that should be picked on merit or claiming you do not identify with it based on race is racism in my book or at least certainly not of any sporting merit.
