Actor.

[Link]

Bob Cratchett, to George C Scott's Ebeneezer Scrooge. Probably the best version of A Christmas Carol that I've seen.

I disengage, I turn the page.

Great movie but I think the muppets runs it close

He never seemed to get a career defining role.

Another who recently died is Robert Hoffman who those of a certain age will remember as Robinson Crusoe on TV. Memorable for it's theme tune and because it was shown during every school holiday for years.

I could watch that again, always hoping that one of the nostalgia channel picks it up oh and the Flashing Blade was another one.

I used to like William Tell. Also The Adventures of Robin Hood - scripted by a few writers who'd been drummed out of America during the McCarthy hearings. There were the westerns too - Chuck Connors in The Rifleman and Branded.

David Warner was always a top actor.

He was in many TV shows and film roles, but I remember him most fondly as the Cardassian interrogator in Star Trek Next Generation, playing alongside Patrick Stewart. A classic episode when Star Trek was still good.

The possible problems are that the licencing to show these old programmes ran out years ago, and a lot of the old film stock that the BBC had was destroyed.

Even the DVD version of Robinson Crusoe was taken from some discovered reels of 16mm film which was half the size than the BBC used.

It's sad and astonishing that some BBC bod was allowed to erase a bit of culture like that.
Maybe it was a sign of things to come.

Yup as Winston Smith discovered it is better to rewrite history than erase it

He was always a good watch. I think I first came across him in "Morgan - A Suitable Case for Treatment" - a film I don't think I have seen in 50 years but found very amusing at the time.
