Last year Palace finished 12th. Can you see a top 10 finish this year?

Gallagher will be a huge loss. It is difficult to find a replacement for a player like him.

Doucoure could be a gem. Something which Palace are missing. Upgrade to all the DM/CM they currently have.

But there are still goals in this Palace side. Hopefully Edouard and Mateda will get more goals. Hopefully Wilf can continue with his form from last season. More game time for Eze this year so hopefully he has a great season. Olise should also have a good season providing he stays fit. I think he has an injury at the moment. But should be okay to be in the squad VS Arsenal. Hopefully, Ferguson stays fit as well. A player who has really struggled with injury. Very versatile player can play anywhere in defence.

How do you feel signings wise? Are you happy? If not, where do you think signings are needed? And how do you see Palace lining up? Do you think Plange and Ebiowei will get opportunities?

I can see Palace playing 4-3-3:

Guaita (Johnstone could become no 1 later on but I think could take some time)

Mitchell
Guehi
Andersen
Clyne

Schlupp
Doucoure
Eze

Zaha
Mateda
Olise

I think top 10 could be difficult. But top 12 is possible. To get top 10 I think Palace still need a RB and AM.

Get a decent midfielder and give eduoard more minutes at no9 and start with olise not ayew and we can break the top 10, no new midfielder, mateta and ayew starting and we will be 12-15, second season for viera and a pretty settled squad I'd be surprised to see us fighting relegation.

True if Mateda and Edouard both can get 10 plus goals each. Then top 10 is a possibility. Olise, Zaha and Eze are all players who can create goals. But Gallagher will be a big miss. What he offered was different.

I would like a season of looking up the table rather than down. I think, after a difficult first few games, that is very possible. So far, no disappointing departures and some good and shrewd signings.

Even though we finished with a positive goal difference (a rare premier league achievement for us) I would like a commanding centre back to come in. Maybe this is Chris Richards and us playing with a back 3.

PV did really well last season and my expectation is further improvement and to just creep into a top ten finish.

Gulp, two beers on a hot afternoon and I’ve completely jinxed next season. I really should know better.

Probably finish about the same or slightly lower.

Mid table mediocrity will be fine anything better is a bonus.

We had a decent defensive record last season and played some good possession based football.
Ideally you’d hope that we could build on this as the team develops with another year of experience as the younger players mature.
The nagging doubt I have relates to our ability to defend set pieces.
We improved last season in this regard as the season went on, but we may well play this season without Kouyate and Ward who made most headed clearances for us last season.
This leaves us largely reliant on Guehi and Anderson who can compete aerially but do not dominate.
If the opposition have three or more good headers of the ball this could leave us vulnerable.
I’d hate us to dominate games and get caught out on a couple of set pieces.

Agreed, apart from the word "mediocrity". Hopefully our performances will be anything but mediocre.

We have to remember that other clubs are also strengthening their squads and some outside of the Big 6 (who always spend big) with serious money.

The question is who do we see finishing below us?

For me, it's the 3 promoted teams, Everton, Leeds, Southampton, Brentford, Brighton and possibly Leicester and Wolves so 10th to 12th place for us.

I for one will be surprised if we better last season's placing in the table. I envisage a great deal of 'Looking over our shoulders'.
My humble view is that the notion of a top 10 or even higher position next season is 'For the birds'.

Some will clearly deem that these are the thoughts of a doomsayer, a prophet of doom, however as I have asserted in a separate debate I have sought the views of an array of supporters both in the UK and abroad and they broadly are in agreement.

If we were in with that Leicester, Wolves, Aston Villa group
10-13th place with a half decent cup run I would say thats us keeping pace with those around us -

Bearing in mind the amount of investment required to progress much higher (relevant to our spending capability) is in the silly money category.

If everything clicked and we had no serious injury problems then I think we have the talent to break the top 10, plus I think Doucoure will be a big plus for us. Eze looks sharp in preseason and Clyne and Mitchell have both looked good, plus Ebiowei and Plange have both been a surprise for me and I reckon at least one of them could have a role to play. If we had a similar season to the last one I'd be happy, but my worry is that if Eze, Wilf or Olise were out for an extended period then there is not a lot of experienced creativity in reserve, as shown by our overseas performances in preseason. If we pick up another creative midfielder either on loan or permanently then I think that would be very useful.

I'm going to predict 10-12 place, but really I'm just happy to continue seeing some good football (providing we don't go down!)

Unless bad luck with injuries happens I am optimistic of a top 10 finish. On oddschecker I saw Palace at 66-1 for a top 6 finish and I think that's very good odds. Some of my reasons are these: psychologically, Zaha, judging from his preseason performances, has adopted a mindset for this season where he WANTS to stay and score. I felt that for the last 2 or 3 seasons that was not the case. If Zaha can avoid injury and is solid mentally about this season, then, given the squad around him Palace could do a Leicester City and win the flipping league! (Or maybe finish in the top sixth unless we discover a Vardy and Mahrez!).

I expect a loss to Arsenal who thrashed Chelsea preseason, but then a slow rise to 6th. I'm predicting 6th spot.
