Government is currently running a rainbow system of alerts, in-line with WOKE alignment. Today it's a Purple alert. This alert level was decided by a COBRA meeting and endorsed by the NHS. This warning is also sponsored by Evian, Volvic, Tesco and Sainburys, with special mention to Fosters and Stella Artois It's going to be very hot, so people should: Drink water Don't leave your dog or child locked in the car.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

There's a weather warning every day where I live. You can never be too safe. It's a bit like doubling up on Durex Extra Safe.

I'm in Madeira in a beautiful air conditioned villa and am so glad that I'm missing out on the UK's humid heat wave

It ain't half 'ot Mum. Trouble is my mum passed years ago and I don't know what to do in this heat. Guess I'll just have to rely on all the advice being lobbed in our direction, mainly for the benefit of all the little snowflakes. Meantime I'll use my own sense and keep out of the sun, drink more water than usual and refrain from energetic activity. Why the heck do the powers that be think we need to be mollycoddled these days?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

summers of 76, 80s etc eh.POG. Quite kdotw. Mrs POG and I were only reminiscing yesterday about '76 when the heatwave lasted around 6 weeks as I recall. And it was very hot, but I don't think we were advised how to behave. Anyway, we took ourselves off to Spain for a fortnight to get some sun. I'm not renowned for my holiday planning prowess!

I can foresee the responses to this, but referencing '76 is missing the point entirely. It's not about "a bit of hot weather". It's about a significant change in climate over the years, with parts of Europe literally on fire and the UK set to record it's highest ever temperature. The frequency of these "hottest since..." events are increasing. Yes, freak heat waves happen like in '76 but it's the frequency, length and overall change in climate that is a concern. Also, what's wrong with messaging about staying hydrated? If you're smart enough and healthy enough to not suffer in the heat then great - you can move on. But it's not about "you" - it's about everyone, and lots of people will die (as they did in '76). This isn't me being "woke" although if it is, I don't get why that would be an insult... If you like the heat, go and enjoy it and have a great day, but this is part of a very dangerous trend that is going to leave future generations in an irreversible position.
