Interesting results from our friends across the channel.

Macron loses his majority, in the face of predictions after his re-election that he would gain more.

A Left-Wing coalition pull in 131 seats

Le Pen leaps from 8 to 89 seats and is now Frances's main Right-Wing political party as the Republicans are reduced to 61.

Still difficult to ascertain any real lessons give the hype at the moment but potentially some serious ramifications for Macron and what he can get done.

Macron will have to compromise a bit but that's not a bad thing, would we had the same here.

He has 5 years I think this is massively over-cooked.

Hard to call anything on it at the moment although my understanding is that the French pollsters are not the most popular people in Paris at the moment.

But Le Pen going from 7 to 89...shades of the SNP hovering on the fringes for a long time before leaping right into the mainstream.

However I cannot even pretend to know much in detail about the minutiae of the French electoral system so who knows?

LOL. Sorely, sorely tempted. But must resist. Political prediction is now up there with Economics in terms of becoming more akin to looking into crystal balls and pretending to understand what is going on rather than actually being able to make any kind of genuine stab at trying to work s*** out.

We live in a world gone insane. Saw this quote from John Donne last week and it has been echoing around my strange old crust ever since...

“Be thine own palace, or the world's thy jail.”

If the game is clearly rigged then even attempting to play it makes you even worse than the mug punters who think it is not.

Ha! a seriously important result for the political scene in Europe and...

5 posts!

I cant say I blame the other HOLers. "French politics" is a title that doesn't draw flies. Perhaps "Brigitte Bardot's knickers". We would already be on page 200...

It’s definitely a good result as the big gains were from populists (anti globalists) from the left and the right. We are going to see a lot, lot more of this.

We need the same here W12, shake our system up a bit, or a lot.

Certainly agree if it sorts out the feckless and tax avoiders.
Can’t see that under any of the others though so may as well stick to what we have.
