Whilst not a huge drinker, I do partake of the Royal Standard’s finest on a regular basis I should probably have more days without beer I tried a Corona zero alcohol, it was pants When working in Brunei I sampled many alcohol free beers (until I discovered the Hash, which always had proper beer). I did find just one that was acceptable, I think it was Old Milwaukee. Does anyone know any decent ones on sale in the UK?

As an alcoholic I avoid zero alcohol beers as it just reminds me what I am missing. However I do know fellow alcoholics who swear by them.

Also a very thin line between 'ah, non alcoholic beer' for an alcoholic to 'well, this is only 1.9% what harm could it do' and therefore could be seen as a deceptive lure back into their nightmare. Personally, I have sampled a few and they can be a useful in a psychological sense when any alcohol is not optional (I am never one for 'I'll only stay for one beer before driving, I'll have a quick Stella') but for whole evenings, extended periods etc. they start to taste like the proverbial cat's urine. Not shy of a mocktail when available though! In fact sampled an 'Innocent Mimosa' yesterday, very nice.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

If I am going out I am either drinking or I am not- usually because of the circumstances (for example if I am the one doing the driving, I am not drinking) Never done the "I will just have the one" thing, same with the non alcoholic versions- too grey area for me, if I am not drinking I just feel more comfortable with a coke or sprite, I guess its just about having clear boundaries.

to support my alcohol free days i think i've tried them all and most disappoint. For a bog standard lager Heineken is the best by a country mile. Must be chilled. Number 2 is possibly San Miguel. Avoid Becks Blue - awful after taste. As mentioned Guinness is a decent effort although clearly nowhere near as good as the real thing. The best in terms of flavour is Brooklyn lager who do a decent craft version. As it's a US beer it is actually 0.5% as supposedly the US definition of zero alcohol is higher than in the UK which is 0.05%. Good luck

A lot of decent German ones available to me here in Hamburg (although most of the decent ones that I like are from the south). Erdinger, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Lamsbrau are a few of my favourites. I seem to remember Erdinger and Franziskaner were also fairly easy to find when I lived in London.

If you like beer the best non alcoholic drink is the Brewdog AF, it is exactly the same as Punk IPA but without the alcohol. It is unbelievably good and I know start with a pint and drink less as a consequence.
