Film has been pulled by Cineworld apparently after 'Muslim mobs' protested it's showing as it depicts 'the daughter of the prophet' and this has been deemed 'blasphemous'. Discuss..
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Nothing new. Anthony Quinn made a film about the prophet back in the 1970's called the Message. It was done very much like the Hollywood stories of Christ, very reverential and worthy. Anyway there were riots and killings at cinemas as Muslims were offended.

There's nothing quite like religion to stir people up. Remember when Jerry Springer the Musical was banned? Similar situatoon really. And of course more despicable examples like Charlie Hebdo.. Some religions of course attract more zealots than other..

"He is not the prophet he is a very naughty boy" All the proceeds for this film should have been used to help with a better understand of religious diversity. In fact it should be a "Not for Prophet film"

You're right to raise this Nick. I can't understand the righteous show of disgust expressed by a few blokes about a film that attempts to tell the story of Muhammad's daughter which has led to Cineworld pulling it. Too often these days events are determined by the views of a minority, be they cultural, racist, diverse or sexually oriented. I don't recall a bunch of Christians protesting about the many films that have been made about Christ such as The Passion, Son of God, The Temptation of Christ to name but a few. OK, so Life of Brian raised a few eyebrows, perhaps understandably, but a very funny film nevertheless. Most folk saw it for what it was - a parody. The few, whose goal could be said to fuel hatred, should not be allowed to dictate what the majority of us can or cannot do. It's just a film. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Good luck to the protesters. They don't like something, they kick up a fuss and their wishes are granted, emboldening them even more. This is how the UK is, and it's only going to get worse as time goes on. The more we see of it, the more people will wake up to it until it's either too late or people fight back. Either way, at least the issue gets settled.

I seem to recall the same issues with Life of Brian - which was banned in Ireland for years and when Mel Gibson made The last Temptation of Christ. This is not just an issue for one faith it is an issue when anyone looks to portray any religions.

The difference, orpington, is that not every religion is followed by a minority of zealots who believe that every little issue is blasphemous and that they are being constantly persecuted.
