Suspect Johnson will survive. Just. Simply nobody else to replace him. If I was a Tory MP then I would have to hedge my bets and stick with the Devil they know because, when all is said and done, a man who can win elections. Counts for a lot.

But when you hark back to December 2019 and the majority the Tories won, and to be here now, it is a remarkable fall from grace.

Ish. But I also wonder how much the pro-Boris factor are playing this up, knowing it will trigger people? All is fair in love, war and politics so probably but the thought of having to go back into full on conflict mode again is wearying, should this all be some cunning Remainer plot to deviate.

Issue is though that Boris has proven, by his refusal to trigger Article 16, that he lacks the bollocks to truly see Brexit through.

Opinion polls can change. And it was not so long ago that the Tories had clawed it back to a couple of points. From a Tory pov, this is probably as bad as it gets. You still have Starmer sweating on the Durham police decision and the Conservatives are a bloody resilient lot.

The issue is not so much Johnson's crapness, at the moment, but the wider question of does any replacement manage to do any better?

Starmer is weak on a whole host of issues come an actual election campaign. Brexit, the Trans issue and so on. Throw in potential boundary changes before the next election and it is all still to play for.

Hence why I think they will give Johnson another go. But we will see.

If Johnson manages to survive then he has to immediately speed up the Rwanda plan, f*** the EU off with Article 16 and privatise Channel 4 as soon as possible.

And have this t*** deselected.

Johnson can turn this around but only if he actually shows some bollocks. I suspect he will not, because he is a loathsome toad when all is said and done, but if Hunt does replace him then the Brexit Party has to come to the fore once more. Because the battle will be well and truly on again.

He will survive, but is already so damaged that he will be forced to resign before the next election.

He won't do any of the things you think he ought to do, because he knows very well that they would not pass the House.

I expect, and hope, that Jeremy Hunt is chosen as the next leader. I also hope that the "Brexit" Party emerges again, so the hardline Brexiteers can have somewhere to place their votes and for the true level of their support to be identified. Then the Tory Party can return to its roots and let's see the split actually happen. I think the country has wised up enough to the impact of Brexit to allow the Tories to still govern, but in coalition with the Lib Dems and the SNP, who will demand, and get, commitments on PR and an independence referendum. Which will be lost as the UK will also enter into negotiations for an associate membership of the EU, as part of EU reform as they move to a two speed model.

We need a shake up. But not of the kind you desire.
