Anyone under 70 won't understand this at all, but who remembers the sepia world of Palace-past when we had a winger named Mark Lazarus who did a complete lap of honour whenever he scored? This included away games when he was booed mercilously the whole way round but a toss he did not give. His family were all boxers and when he played against us for QPR there was an accidental collision between his fist and our left back, Don Townsend's (father of Andy) nose. The nose was runner-up, but no one seemed to bother much back then.

Did he not score for QPR in league cup final?

I seem to remember lots of jokes from the crowd about his name e.g. Lazarus come forth when he had the ball. Edited by Badger11 (30 May 2022 9.27am)

If I remember right once I saw the game restart before he had finished his lap of honour but he still carried on.

Some cracking goals and well worth celebrating. I remember one against Blackpool when I was standing in line with him. Wow! It just flew in. People tend to remember Colin Taylor’s “piledrivers” , but I think Lazarus hit them just as hard.. not many tap-ins in his time.
I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals. |

I think it was the third - and winning - goal, after Cliff Jackson and someone else (? Steve Kember) had scored. 0-2 down at half-time. I was behind the goal at the Holmesdale end, and right in line with Lazarus's shot. I recall that he began his traditional lap of the pitch in front of the terrace where the AW now stands, but was stopped by an ancient gent, walking stick in hand, who had climbed over the perimeter fence to congratulate him.

I was on the Holmesdale too - remember the players throwing their kit down to the fans on the pitch at the end. In my memory that was the end of the season but we still had a game to play away at Blackburn which we won 2-1.

I've just looked him up. He's 83 now and when he retired he was Steve Davis's bodyguard ffs.

A great favourite and I remember the filthy abuse he got throughout the match at the Old Den which he suffered with indifference
