seeing some recent posts on the MP3 thread, and not wanting to detract from the established protocol, please post your trivia/stories here. Really must be as authentic/trivial as possible. Here's a starter, following the YES post on the MP3 thread. The Album, Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe was only self-titled as one of the other members of YES (Chris Squire) took legal action to prevent them using the band name.

I went with a friend to Bob Dylan's concert at the Albert Hall in 1966. We arrived early and headed to a bar for a pre-concert livener only to find Mick Jagger and Keith Richards there also enjoying a drink or two. My chum was a smoker and, after a while, Jagger came over and asked him for a light. All seemed a bit surreal and, to this day, I've no idea why he didn't have his own matches!
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

You asked for trivia ... then may I say I saw David Bowie on Victoria Station in 1969. I was probably one of a fairly small minority on the station that day who would have known who he was. I would like to be able to say I engaged him in conversation and what a jolly good chap he was, but I didn't. I am also pretty sure I saw him playing in a group called the Konrads in the Beckenham area around 63/64.

Pete53, a true highlight, compared to this post. The Lemonheads had played the pyramid stage the previous night, and Evan Dando (lead singer) was standing on top of my mates van giving an impromptu karaoke session. Gave at least 40 minutes of his time, which was nice. Attachment: Glasto 1993 Evan Dando.jpg (780.82Kb)

About 6 years ago I saw Steve Hackett ( Genesis ) at the Wharf on Tavistock. It was a warmup for the Royal Albert Hall a few weeks later. Great concert. A few weeks later, we saw Oliver Wakeman and Gordon Giltrap at the Wharf. After the concert, I was talking with Oliver and told him of my experience with Steve Hackett and then Steve Howe and how Mr Howe was crap. I didn't know at the time that Oliver was good friends with Mr Howe and both had recently completed a world tour with Yes with Oliver on keyboards instead of his dad. Oliver didn't say anything but probably thought I as a right duckhead. Some really good tribute bands at the Wharf and the occasional original.

When I used to sell merchandise out of the now long gone Nevada Smiths pub on 3rd Ave, Bowie would often walk past the bar (guessing to get tea or Coffee) on a Sunday morning & me & the doorman Chris ( QPR Fan) would often exchange greetings.

I was lucky to see Bon Scott (ACDC) in November 79 at the Hammersmith Odeon, 3 months before he died, was the best gig i ever saw, i was 14 and it was my first gig.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |
