Here's my take on the squad players that we can expect to see next season. Guaiti - 8 Still a very good keeper and will hopefully be with us for another season. Butland - 8 A valuable deputy and imo just as good as the above. Ward - 7 Had a great season. Proved his versatility playing in a variety of positions. Suspect he will be a squad player next season. Clyne - 7.5 Another who had a great season. More pace than Ward and may keep his place next term. Mitchell - 8.5 Sensational for someone so young. Nailed on to start next term. Anderson - 8 Has the odd lapse but his ability to see a pass is exceptional. Another nailed on to start. Guehi - 8.5 Has formed a solid partnership with Anderson and is another who is certain to start next term. Gallagher - 9 Went off the boil for a while but came back with a bang against Man u showing what we will miss if we lose him. If he doesn't make the chelsea squad we have to hope we can bring him back. Fingers crossed he wont want to leave London and that west ham fill their boots early. McArthur - 8.5 Had a fantastic season broken up by injury. He came back and slotted straight in. Will be in the team next term. Kouyote - 7 Had a solid if unspectacular season. Switching back to DM from CB. Rumours he may be off to Turkey but will be a squad player next term if he stays. Hughes 7.5 Had a good season despite being in and out of the team. At 27 still has improvement in him. Riedeweld - 6.5 A bit part player. Can't see him being more than that again if he stays. Schlupp - 7.5 Another who was a regular He scores the odd goal as well. May be another that has more involvement next season. Ayew - 7.5 Had a great season and pound for pound was well worth what we paid for him. Wins so many free kicks and work rate is second to none. Olise - 9 Wow, what needs to be said. Young and sheer quality. Nailed on to start next season. Eze - 8 Had a great start but his injury affected his performances. Slowly getting back to his best and is another sure starter. Zaha - 8.5 imo getting better and better, His skill level is still the best at the club, just, and is now scoring for fun. Lets hope he stays. Mateta - 7 Only young and has shown enough to be kept on the books. Edouard - 7.5 Another who is young and imo should be starting next season. Benteke - 6.5 Has been a bit part player for much of the season and should be scoring more. Great for his defensive heading ability but that's not really his job. We don't really play to his strengths up front. Seems to like it at Palace so may be content to see out his contract. It will be interesting to see who comes in but the incoming players this season were quality. I can see a RB and cover for LB. Unless we have someone coming though. In terms of formation PV has already said that we need to be more adaptable next season so I can see different formations being tried in pre-season. I would favour playing Eze in Central Midfield with 2 DM's and Wilf and Olise either side of Edoude. Eze loves picking the ball up deep and running at defences. Comments, thoughts please.

Think that's a reasonably fair assessment. I think players should only leave if we've got suitable replacements to come in. For example, I think both Jairo and Luka need to move on for the sake of their career...but only if we can find an upgrade in DM. Tomkins may want to leave for first team football...so we may need adequate cover at CB. Although Kouyate could do a job there. Main priority should surely be a striker. Can't seem to get the best out of Eduoard and Tekkers, despite their quality. And Mateta just not up to it.

Quite good summary of the current squad. Funnily enough, in a season where it's our attractive forward play that has caught the eye, to me it's defence where we have looked really top quality at times (some set plays notwithstanding). Guehi is just class with his effortless marshalling of the back line, Anderson always had those sublime long passes in his locker but his covering was a bit ropey to start. That has much improved as his relationship with the former has developed. Full backs good. TM a gem to keep. Clyne has been solid, nothing fancy but had a good season. Good pace and some of his crosses have been very good.

Good summary, i think Mateta is worth more than 7 on your scale, and i cant see Edouard starting 6.5 and obviously Benteke -27, i think we will get AWB on loan, and buy Nketiah on a free and Doucoure for 15m, and maybe a young CB

There's nothing to shout about there, and he's no improvement on the players we have already.

If I had to make any case for NKetiah I would say he does look more a 'goal hanger' to me than the players we have. I mean that in the best way possible. It's nice to see a player or rather forward who's sole raison d'etre is to score goals. We haven't had that since possibly Bats, Gayle or Murray from memory (I'm sure others could suggest a few more). The other case for including him may be that our interest is well documented. I'm presuming he's an Arsenal fanm so may relish playing under Vieira, available on a free (I think??) and good chance of first team football here. My biggest concern is he would just prove to be exactly the same as Edouard, whom we already have. Just my thoughts nothing more!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Higher rankings in some respects than I would give but it's nice to hear the optimism for next season. Once again the in and out goings will be fascinating.

Agree we tried to buy the guy last year and instead opted for Edouard, who is one of our higher earners. They are no disimilar players so not sure why we would still want/need Nketiah who is still somewhat unproven and is demanding massive wages. There is more to come from Edouard - he needs a decent pre season and maybe an arm around him to give him more confidence.

I think what we need for next season is based on what formation PV wants to play. From the last few weeks I think he favours moving to a back three. This means we need a right sided wing back. Clyne can play that role but we need an upgrade or cover as Ward is not mobile enough to play wing back. Ward however could play as the right sided center back in a back three, but this is not ideal so we'd need a right sided CB. As for a right sided wing back I would prefer someone like Ola Aina (there was a transfer rumour about him a few days ago) rather than AWB because Aina can play on both wings (but prefers the right) and is clearly better going forward than AWB. There isn't a pressing need to find cover for Mitchell if we play wing backs because Schlupp can fill in on the left if needed. Looking more long term we also need a new CDM to replace Kouyate and Luka (or short term if both leave). Doucoure perhaps? I don't think we need a new striker. I don't see what Nketiah offers us that Edouard doesn't already provide. If anything we need cover for Mateta. Someone that can hold the ball up and bring other players into play. Nketiah is not that player. So for me a RB/wing back and a CDM should be the priority and perhaps a right sided CB if PV wants to play 3 at the back.

I notice you haven't mentioned Luka, you clearly don't expect him to be with us next term. I certainly hope not. Disagree that Wilf is getting better and better. More like different, but still has the ability to terrorise the opposition. Patrick needs to work on him to cut out the sulks and tantrums, which are getting less admittedly. I like Hughes more than I thought I would (mainly because he came from Watford!) and I'd mark him up slightly. Eze has come good again right at the end of the season. Remains my squad favourite for his skill, awareness and flair. Definitely a 9 for me. Otherwise a fair assessment.

I was intrigued by PV's statement in the post Man U press interview that Zaha should have got 20 or even 24 goals this season! Let's hope Wilf stays and PV can get him into a mindset where he scores that kind of number!
