So it's Easter. This is the time of the Biblical resurrection and all the rest of it. Now don't be shy. Who on here actually believes in the Christian God of the Bible? Who believes in the resurrection and all the associated events? No judgement. And let's not get into space aliens, supreme beings or a scrap about whose god is the best. This is about faith, the words in the Bible and the existence of the Christian God. A bit heavy I know, but we haven't done religion for a while. I'll go first. I don't believe in any of it, aside from the possibility of some historical references that could be broadly accurate. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (15 Apr 2022 1.00pm)

I'd 'like to' believe as I'm sure there is a degree of comfort and certainty with going 'all in'. Unfortunately much like other religions it just doesn't seem at all likely to reflect reality (in a supernatural sense at least), so I don't. But still...Happy Easter!

If there was a magic pill which makes you slavishly believe in God it would outsell the blue one. You would spend your life looking forward to the riches of heaven and then when you pop off the mortal coil you wouldn't know that it was never there to enjoy anyway.

100%. Probably the most attested to the event in the history of that time. Everything in Christianity hinges on that single event and it only makes sense if you accept that it happened. If it is just a made-up event, then people were willing to die based on that lie and given the accepted norms of the time, you would not have the first witnesses to this event being women. Jewish scholars dismiss Christ as being a kind of 1st century David Blaine but few deny that he was placed on a cross, executed and then, seemingly, came back to life. With Jesus you only have two valid options. That He was he said he was or else a conman. That is it. But somebody died on that cross, was proclaimed as being dead and then appeared again not just once but dozens of times, to multitudes of people.

I enjoy the history of religion. I don't believe in any of the miracles or in any after life, or any God. I notice the older you get the more you think about it.

I'm Catholic but not a practising one. I do believe there is something after our physical life.

I am also Cathoic and not a very good one. Hands up to that. I struggle in many many way. But in terms of what lays behind it all then it's not about the after-life or miracles or anything else. That all comes afterwards. Easter is about this single event If you don't believe, on balance of probabilities, that it happened then essentially our entire cultural heritage for over 2000 years is based on a lie. I simply cannot see it in any other way. Now you can be fine with that, believing that all humanity is effectively predicated on the basis of positive founding myths but this particular event offers no real grey areas. The Messiah or a Madman. Binary choice. Edited by Matov (15 Apr 2022 3.17pm)
