....over the prospect of Sweden & Finland joining NATO. I always said he was nuts. Now do you believe me ? Beware of nutters. They are unpredictable and you cannot reason with them. Reason to take him seriously? Is A nutter with nukes not reason enough?
Opinions please ?

Vlad IS mad. No question Palazio. Trouble is, his inner circle love him to bits and keep him out of reach of any possible SAS plot to eliminate him. As far as I can see NATO has done all it can so far to neutralise his threats and have resisted the temptation to attack him. The concern, of course, is that even if Vlad could be taken out, there's probably another loony ready to take over. What a dreadful situation it is. I never thought, in my lifetime, I'd see another madman try to conquer Europe with a devastating, illegal and destructive war like this.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

He has threatened to position nuke weapons and more conventional forces closer to the borders with countries that join Nato. If he has any conventional forces left after Ukraine that is! Since he sent nuke bombers into Swedish airspace 2 weeks ago, yes INTO, its hardly surprising that countries are queuing up to join Nato now. I can see us being on the brink until this looney is taken out. He is due to send another raid towards UK airspace soon. If they ever enter our airspace they will be shot down instantly. Listening to the exchanges between the British and russian pilots is an eye opener!

Russia already has nukes aimed at the NATO states, nuke submarines in The baltic sea. More saber battling. "Don't join a defensive alliance to prevent us from attacking you, else we'll attack you!" His behaviour less led to these nations wishing to join asap. The realities supersede his theatrics.

Putin is desperate, and that possibly makes him more dangerous. Sure, we could call his bluff, but perhaps it would be better to delay any expansion of NATO and see what he does next. Risking mutual annihilation seems rather foolish in the circumstances. He might die soon, and that could change things quite a bit.

Reading all these threats I need an update. Can we be sure that Russia or USA using nuclear weapons does in fact, still mean mutual destruction? That has been understood from the Reagan/Gorbachev era, I need to know it still applies.......

The problem is you can only meet people half way if they are willing to do the same. The Russian assessment of this invasion has been a stream of nonsense, and if you attend 'peace talks' while burying civilian bodies in mass graves, and shelling far and wide you cannot expect to be taken seriously. Some with self assailing takes on the West look solely at NATO for blame, when realistically Ukraine was very unlikely to have become a NATO country anyway, nor was it a threat to Russia. Going back countless decades Russia has had its sights set on Ukraine, so unless people are advocating genocide (if saying that Ukraine has no right to exist or Ukrainians no right to a personal identity - Ukrainian orphans are being 'relocated' to Russian families), they will accept that much responsibility for where we are now falls at Putin's feet. We can hardly blame Finland and Sweden for wishing to protect themselves from possible future aggression. I doubt it will happen this year on account of it being such a volatile moment, but where they see these atrocities unfold, it's an inevitable desire of the public of those nations.

I don't think Putin will use Nuclear weapons unless Russia are attacked which wont happen , the only country i can see using nuclear weapons first is Iraq, because of there religious doctrine, and their Hatred of Israel
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I think we all thought Russian conventional forces would be more effective.

What is the point of being an independent nation if you cant join whatever you want? Telling a country they arn't free to do something goes against everything we stand for in the west. Nobody should care if one man doesn't like it, that man rules a country, not the world... Im so sick of people saying you should just let your next door neighbour do what they want to you just because he is a nutter and strong. We set up NATO to avoid exactly this kind of situation. The fact that Putin is angry that he wont be able to bully his neighbours is exactly why need to keep going. If Sweden and Finland want in, they are in. End of discussion as far as I am concerned
