couldn't see this thread anywhere else. I was taught by a work mentor to "always play with a straight bat". Doesn't seem to be the case for Sunak's family, or indeed the wider Government. Swerving paying around £2M a year in tax seems excessive, and one that HMRC should at least be casting their eye over. And I have no doubt there are many other rich people playing the same game. So the contrite,."we'll do the right thing next year, to avoid any conflict" reads to me,..."We got caught this time, we aren't paying back anything from previous years, but next year our tax efficiency schemes will be so good, no-one will catch us out again" So instead of HMRC investigating a "private citizens tax affairs", there is now a Whitehall investigation to find the mole. WTF ? "A Whitehall inquiry is under way into how the tax affairs of Chancellor Rishi Sunak's wife were leaked to the media, the BBC has been told." No doubt the whistle-blower will never work again, and the Sunak's will keep minimising their UK tax liabilities.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

I don’t mind people having lots of money but when they bend and make up rules to give themselves even more money it is beyond the pale.

Come on, its standard conservative practice to get round the tax system. Sunak was being lined up at Boris' successor until Boris done a hactchett job on him! No suprises where the leak came from!! Edited by kevlee (10 Apr 2022 1.53pm)

I just find it less than hilarious that basically the rich pay no tax and the poor pay tax on everything. Bring back Robin Hood. If they can get away with it, they're going to do it. Close the loopholes.

Sunak has demanded an inquiry to find out who leaked that his wife was non dom. This is because the tax dodging isn't the problem, but people knowing the truth about the chancellor's tax dodging.

I can hardly believe that intelligent people can write the ignorant claptrap that appears above. I'm talking not about opinions - everyone is entitled to their own - but about facts, which some of you are either unaware of, or choose to ignore because they don't suit your agenda. One poster suggests that the Sunaks have "got caught". The fact is that Mrs Sunak has been found to be abiding by the tax rules of this country. Another says that the rest of us "have to pay their (i.e., the Sunaks') dues". Again, she has been paying her own dues, in accordance with the rules. Then we have the assertion that "basically the rich pay no tax". Finally, someone talks about "the Chancellor's tax-dodging". Really? Do you know something nobody else does? But it's not just on here that this rubbish is uttered. Last night I heard a respected phone-in host, twice in the space of ten minutes, talking about the Sunaks "wriggling out" of paying their due tax. Another, even more respected, referred to the "scheme" Mrs Sunak has employed to minimise her tax: it's not a scheme, it's a rule which has been in place since 1799. As I say, all these comments ignore the facts. But for what it's worth, I share the opinion of many that this non-dom rule should at the very least be closely looked at and made fit for purpose.

Exactly. I'm sure any self employed or landlords on here declare all there income so they pay the correct tax. Now what they may be doing is actually illegal which isn't what Mrs sunak has been doing. Stones and glass houses. Many probably took a covid loan and /or furlough. Maybe even by doing a bit of clever accounting to do this. £400 billion spent on covid and now someone doing nothing illegal is to blame for tax rises ha ha.

Never understood how the Sunaks could be popular, they are as 'bent as a nine-bob note'. I've just been reading senior tory David Davies assessment of Sunak's catastrophic chancellorship, hopefully people are now realising that he has inflicted major damage on the economy making it worse with everything he touches.

Couldn"t we have two kinds of tax systems, those that want to subsidise the billionaires, and those that don"t? Just add the extra on to the cap doffers tax, they will love paying it as they are doing their duty , and keep those who don"t appreciate paying the billionaires share lower, its win win! The billionaires and the like could show their appreciation by sending signed photos to the subserviants, something they could cherish, knowing they have done their duty to keep the status quo, whats not to like?

You could always sell your extra properties and donate the money to charity. It's a socialist thing and you are a socialist.
