Hands up who's old enough to remember the corrugated-iron ladies lavatory that was stategically placed in a hollow behind the old terracing at the Whitehorse Lane end. It would now be roughly in the fruit and veg aisle in Sainsbury's, in fact it might still be.
I'm not making this up, it was the only girls bog available.

I once took a young lady friend to West Brom away back in the day and the only ladies toilet was a shed where they stacked up big drums of cleaning stuff, as in bleach and toxic looking green stuff, I was seriously worried about her sprouting another ear by the time she came out
I like to think this day and age things are a bit better for the girls, but going by the mens toilets at selhurst, I’m not so sure

Well I can tell you that the one at the Whitehouse Lane end was a real sh*t house, er, actually come to think of it it was, but I mean that architecturally.

There was eventually one, similar at the Holmesdale Road end, later replaced (when the terracing was put in) by a portacabin.
Trouble with that was the water pressure was so bad that after the first flush of the 2 cisterns at half time, it took 'til half way through the second half for them to refill.......

and as for getting any water out of the taps to wash your hands

I thought that water that came out of the taps was a bonus it was normally knee deep and I am not sure it was water.

I have of course no experience of Ladies lavatories in football stadia but I have over the years had the misfortune to avail of those labelled 'Male' in non-executive/corporate areas of grounds the length and breadth of this country.

NOT pleasant experiences at all.'Explosions' heard from the traps, and expulsions of foul smelling intestinal gases as temulent males urinate.
Thankfully since those days I have been privileged to avail of the toilet facilities in more salubrious areas of stadiums.

I don't remember that one (probably because I never used it), but I have a thankfully dim memory of a men's establishment at the top of the Park Road terrace at the Whitehorse end. The current Whitehorse men's is palatial by comparison.

Not normally a problem in the Ladies - we are so much more particular and considerate (and we have better aim).

I suppose now hidden mini-cameras are so freely available, you no longer need to go into them, Willo :-)

You"re all missing the point sadly. The basis of the original observation was that not only would you have to be very old to remember the facility in question, but that it was sited at the bottom of a large ditch left over from when the ground was a clay pit and the women had to abseil down in order to reach it. It wasn't so much a reflection of social mobility and differing acceptable standards as a highlight of the number of women who attended in those days. Far too many girls rock up these days which is why we've got diagonally-striped shirts. There's also a lack of Brylcreme which in my opinion should be compulsory.

That’s a memory of my childhood, my dads brylcream stains on the headboard of his bed and on the back of the sofa where he used to sit

Absolutely, Brylcreme is a very versitile commodity, used liberally by Terry Long. Terry also used to take his teeth out before the game and there's not nearly enough of that these days either.
