I'm surprised there isn't a thread about the Olympics, although we never do really well. Also tends to be embroiled in controversy one way or another.

I know it's nearly over now, but just curious to know whether any of you have been watching the curling. We've got men's and women's teams playing for gold and, although it's a strange sport in many ways, I am finding the curling compelling viewing.

I played it once in Glasgow as part of a corporate entertaining event and appreciate how tricky and tactical it is to play. Anyway, if you've not seen any yet, try to catch some. We're in with a chance of a couple of Gold medals.

The ice hockey has been pretty good too!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I have been watching some of the curling, it is surprising how tactical it is. As for ice hockey, is there anything that is called foul play?

Believe it or not the most exciting competition for me is nordic combination although Austria`s chances to bring home medals may be better in skiing, ski-jumping etc. If you understand the fine tactics behind the final cross-country competition especially combined with the fact that you have either defend a time-advantage or to chase the leader is thrilling. Especially you have to be careful to manage your steam, find the right part of the slope to attack and so on. There are also some tacticts incolved like who is leading small groups in the slope as leading is also more difficult and exhausting then running in the middle of the group and so on. Best of all is the team-competion when choosing the right order of runners with reference to the results of the jumping competition adds further complexity .

Actually the competitions of the nordic combination were the only I watched.

Yes, I've been watching all the curling right through the competitions, men & women. We really deserve our places in the finals with the men beating USA and the women pulling off a brilliant recovery against Sweden - both opposition teams being the current Gold medal holders.

I've also really got into some of the snowboard events - especially the half pipe ones.

This year, I've been disappointed with the artificial slopes for the ski jumping (those grooves look like tramlines!) and the course for things like skeleton, luge and the bobsleigh events - all looks so sterile and contrived.

Will be up to watch the mens final live - lots of coffee and a bacon roll will help. It's an early start, and sometimes I do wake up grumpy, but tomorrow I'll let him sleep in so I can watch in peace.......

That sounds good....I'm off to the kitchen.

Didn't watch one minute of it. A load of doping crap and a load of Chinese propaganda. Want the snooker back on Eurosport.

Oh well, that's it, nearly finished. Back to the snooker ASCPFC.

At least our men got a silver in the curling while the women won gold.

Let's face it, we're just not cut out for winter sports.

There is a FB group for Viz top tips and one the other day was:

'Pretend you're in the British curling team by crouching behind your wife and shouting insults whilst she is sweeping the kitchen'.

Well done to our ladies in the Curling. Was looking like a Gold was doing to elude us, so a nice way to end the games.
