Unions have reacted with fury after bank of England bossurged workers not to ask for a big pay rise, to help stop prices rising out of control.Andrew Bailey said wage rises needed to be moderate with firms showing restraint in pay talks.When asked whether the bank was asking workers not to demand big pay rises, mr Bailey said yes. The GMB union branded the comments a sick joke while the tuc said call for pay restraint were ill founded! Pesky Unions- getting involved! Andrew, or sir Andrew(it"s only a matter of time), is a civil servant, paid for by the very people he wants to not get a pay rise of any worth- and earns £575000 a year-about £650000 with pension pot- seems fair to me!

Bank of England chiefs have always called for pay restraint and Unions always demand higher wages was ever thus, nothing to see here. I remember this back in the seventies.

Not a problem. State workers pay rises come from taxing buy to lets a bit more. Private pay rises by laying off workers.

Its the fact that this guy is on six hundred and fifty thousand and is asking everyone else not to ask for more money that is the point- but i was expecting the usual suspects to not see the irony-but hey ho-we all have our opinion!

Sky is paid for almost exclusively by tax payers. Wilf produces nothing tangible to society. His contribution to society can only be measured in the excitement he brought/brings to a small fan base, his charity work, and his tax returns (which, no doubt, are manipulated with avoidance schemes).

I think you (TGH 64) maybe mean tax efficiency. Something high-end accountants are very good at. Whilst top footballers were previously understood to have set-up off-shore companies to minimise tax liabilities in the UK, it would also be interesting to see Andrew Bailey's accounts and how much of his enormous income is taxable ? Sorry, but where do you draw this conclusion from? The Governor of the Bank of England is paid via PAYE, just like any civil servant.
