Frozen out by Howe along with Clarke (that one I can understand). Is he really that bad? Established international? Competition for Tyrick? Worth looking into I should co co.

Not good enough to play for a rubbish Newcastle team, why do you think he would improve us?

He may not be everyone's cup of tea but I would respectfully suggest that (fortunately for him) he has quite enough coaching badges & managerial experience not to need your endorsement. Originally posted by beak

A few years ago everyone was raving about Lewis. Liverpool even tried signing him. Would be worth a punt IMO as long as it was on the cheap

They were 23rd in League 2 when he took over. He secured 3 promotions and left when a 5 year stay in the Premier League came to an end. He achieved these with and without money to spend. QPR, Everton and others have shown that having money in no way guarantees success. You have to know how to spend it and how to manage the players bought. It took Palace multiple attempts to survive the first year of promotion. Pulis was the first to achieve safety after Smith, Coppell, Lombardo, Dowie, Holloway and whoever else were unable to find a way to make it work. Howe kept Bournemouth up at the first attempt, with no prior Premier League experience as a player or manager. To pick out the relegation as the significant event is completely unfair.

If you check back he had plenty to spend at Bournemouth. and as I said his only achievement in the Premier League was a relegation.I'm not interested in his credentials from the Bostick fifth division or the Johnson's paint cup! [Link] Nope, you said 'his only noteworthy event in football' was a relegation, which is plainly untrue. Also, why would achievements (especially as impressive as Howe's) in the Football League not count for anything? Are we that spoilt that we see that as beneath us now?

Just because he has been frozen out at Newcastle, doesn't make him a bad player. With the exception of Saint-Maxim (and possibly Wilson), the rest of the Newcastle team has been poor. With better coaching and better players around him, he could be very decent. If Newcastle survive this season, then they will be looking at players of a much higher calibre.
