I got the following from a writer for the Hartlepool United website, and thought I'd open it up to you guys/gals to reply to him.

I shall point him towards this post and he can pick the best reply!

-------------------------

I am doing some work on the Hartlepool United website and I was wondering if I could get a quote for a piece I am doing on a preview type piece.

1) What do you know about Hartlepool United and the draw itself?
2) How are you finding life under Patrick Vieira?
3) How do you fancy your chances in the FA Cup this year?

1. They come from a long way North. They are called the Monkey Hangers because their fishermen hung a monkey (or boy) from a french shipwreck during the Napoleonic war that was the sole survivor from the boat off their beaches. The fellah on Sky is a big fan of them.

2. We are very lucky to have Vieira. He is a real tonic for our club.

3.I am hoping we will be too good for them although I hope they help create a great atmosphere on the day. I heard they are bringing 4000!! Hats off to them if they do.
3. How far we get will depend on luck of the draw unfortunately. But maybe Wembley is calling us back.

Surprisingly nice beach at Seaton Carew to divert you from any footballing disappointments.

Très bon.

Two finals in my life time, beaten both times - so not much.

Don't know much about the Pools, but from what I've seen since we've drawn them, they look like a decent club (that's club, not neccessarily team !) With passionate local supporters much like ourselves.

Life's much better under Vieira. The football was utter dross under Hodgson. I don't think points-wise we're any better off, but we feel a lot happier.

I think the manager is going for it in the cup this year, so if we can avoid the likes of City, Chelsea and Liverpool I think we can get to the final again. If we do, we just hope to get a decent ref this time, as Clattenburg absolutely robbed us of victory in the last one, and we're due a bit of luck in the reffing stakes.

This is a nice idea.

1 Hartlepool Utd are a solid League 2 side with an energetic fan base. They did well to beat Championship side Blackpool in the 3rd round, but will face tougher opposition at Selhurst Park.

2 Since his arrival we have played some of the best football we've seen in a long while, so life under Vieira is very good.

3 Depends who we draw after we've beaten you, but we're hoping for a decent run this year.

We look forward to seeing you all down here on Saturday. Can't wait to see your theme for the day.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I know you are known as the Monkey Hangers (for reasons mentioned already), One of your most famous managers was a very young Brian Clough. You are one of the oldest clubs in the World (though not as old as us!) I'd expect Hartlepool to put up solid and brave resistance for half an hour or maybe more but once we score the first the goals will flow.
Patrick's arrival has been a breath of fresh air. We now play passing, possession football. Long may it continue.
If we get through the next couple of rounds we have every chance of reaching another final. Any team who deservedly beats Man City on their own ground can on their day beat anyone.

1. I think you were called Hartlepools Utd being a combination of Hartlepool and West Hartlepool. I can remember as a lad in the 1960s seeing your club's name at the bottom of the Division 4 ladder regularly until a certain B Clough came along and (I think it was the season after he left you) you got promoted to the dizzy heights of Division 3 much to many people's surprise.

2. Patrick Vieira has been a breath of fresh air. I like the way we now play and am hoping that PV will stay at least till the end of his current contract.

3. As one of the sides in the very first FA Cup and this being the 150th anniversary of the competition, I'm hoping we will get the luck of the draws to at least make the final again and hopefully do a Leicester. It's good when someone other than the usual suspects win one of the 3 major domestic trophies.

Hartlepool beat us at Selhurst Park last time out

Vieira is doing an excellent job given the transition we have embarked on. He is however relatively inexperienced and has made a few mistakes.

Cup run will very much depend on keeping the injuries down and getting a win or two pretty soon in the league.

1) What do you know about Hartlepool United and the draw itself?

Hartlepool United is between Sunderland and Middlesborough. Which makes it the s*** in a s*** sandwich, unfortunately. If not for fault of Hartlepool's own.

2) How are you finding life under Patrick Vieira?

Isn't that a question for Mrs Vieira?

3) How do you fancy your chances in the FA Cup this year?

Winners. No, seriously.

a, We have a team that on its day can beat anyone (Man City 0 Palace 2). b. We're prioritising the FA Cup this year as far as I can tell. That must help. c. Alan Pardew is no longer manager. That must help even more. d. The law of averages. We have to win something sometime, one day. 1860 was quite a long time ago. e. In a one-off match, we're not short of match-winners. On their day, Zaha, Gallagher, Eze, Olise, Edouard are all the sort of players who can get hot and turn a game.

1. I remember Palace in the lower reaches of the Third Division South, and Hartlepool round the bottom of the Third Division North.
Then, we both got relegated to the fourth division and started playing each other.
I had a soft spot for Hartlepool as they always seemed to be applying for re-election to the league, so I adopted them as my second team. I remember they had a player called Godbold who seemed to be their main goalscorer, so,when I played three and in with my cousin, we'd alternate with being Mike Deakin or Godbold.
Still look out for their results and glad they're back in the league.

2.Still early days for Patrick Vieira but very encouraging, so far.

3. With a favourable draw we could go some way if we beat Hartlepool.

I bet Hartlepool fans never tire of the monkey hanging story. I can't seem to remember us playing much over recent years. Almost in the back of my mind is a cup game but can't quite recall. 90s at a guess.

Viera is cool. Not that Roy wasn't, of course.

I have a funny feeling we'll beat another 'pool in the Cup: if you want a strange prediction. However, a final seems to do us. Go that extra step, who knows?

Called the Monkey Hangars for reasons already stated. I believe their mascot was elected as Mayor. Have had numerous run-ins with Darlington fans.

Life under Vieira is great. We haven’t got as many points as we should have but he is trying to play football the right way.

Vieira is of the mind set ( like Mourinho) that success breeds success so seems to be taking the Cup seriously. With a bit of luck we could go all the way, knowing our luck we will meet Man Utd in the Final
