Your favourite James Bond actor & why

For me, its gotta be Roger Moore. Looking like a fat middle-aged barfly. He temporarily : puts down the pint & the packet of Benson & Hedges, and then beats up an MMA heavyweight champion, seduces a 21 year old beauty queen and hacks the encryption code of a military superpower. Then he nicks a jet fighter and out-manoeuvres the squadron of Top Guns who pursue him, does a slalom down an advanced ski slope , and teaches deep-sea Oil rig engineers how to scuba-dive. Most people i know born in 1927 can barely work the software on an ATM machine. Roger Moore in a light blue suit with flared trousers ! Not bad for a Stockwell Stalwart. what a top top geezer ? or dare i say, a ruddy good chap. who is your favourite Bond ? Sir Roger Moore for me as well, the 70’s were bond at its best. He was my hero as The Saint, then Brett St Clair in The Persuaders and as if he wasn’t cool enough for me as a school boy he got the bond gig

Sean for me he had that streak of nastiness. The two producers wanted Connery from the start however the finance came from the American film studio and they didn't want an unknown Scottish actor. That is why there are so many claims that so and so actor was supposed to be Bond. There was a tug of war going on between the producers and the studio with both sides suggesting compromise candidates. The Americans actually wanted Cary Grant (see North by Northwest for his Bond audition). Grant however didn't want to do 3 picture deal so turned it down. Other names were suggested by both sides but eventually the producers got their way and Connery got the gig. Ironically Roger Moore was exactly the type of Bond that the Americans wanted, he played it light and humorous very much like Cary Grant would have done.

It's possible to make them of course but similar to the carry on movies I don't think Bond fits as well outside of the sixties and seventies. Now they try to make something that is politically incorrect at its core into something that is. It's as realistic as the Cowboy and Indian movies of the fifties were to what actually happened during that past.....though obviously Bond's a fiction.

That would be my suggestion to the producers reboot the franchise but set it firmly in the fifties and sixties when the books were written.

My wife is a fan of Pierce Brosnan as Bond. I think I still plump for Connery, mainly because he more accurately fits Ian Fleming's characterisation. However, I do enjoy Craig's films, but they have moved the role into a new era, but still a long way from what goes on out there in the real world of espionage I suspect.
