What do we all think of Will Hughes?
I know he had a difficult start, spending 3 months on the sidelines, but I watched him against Liverpool and particularly in the 1st half he seemed to be running around like the proverbial.
Thoughts?

Not only him ... we were over-run in first 35 minutes
and lucky to be only two down.

Personally, if it is between Luka and him it is no contest, Hughes has constructive skill and puts it about. Luka has only the latter and is a rotten leader. Compare him with Ward as a Captain.

What beats me is why we are now a 'second half team' - can anyone explain ?

He hasn't been great for the last couple of games. But neither has Connor to be fair.

I think there are just going to be games that its hard to get a foothold in, or they are just not on top form.

Though with the 2nd goal, despite the offside, Hughes didn't bother to get back in on the back post when he could see that Mitchell had 2 to mark.

I can't, but I think pretty much one anyone would struggle to get close to that first half Liverpool performance - I think them tiring is more the reason we were able to get ourselves into the game 2nd half.

It was the same under Roy. Wrong starting line-up, too slow out of the blocks.

Playing Schlup alongside Hughes and Gallagher doesn’t help those two. We are missing Kouyate and/or Macca to play in that middle 3. I would have gone for Luka especially against Liverpool as the 3rd in the middle. The balance with Schlup in the 3 doesn’t work which is why Hughes and Gallagher haven’t been as good. Hughes seems to tire after 70 minutes and gets replaced nearly every match. Not sure if it is tiredness or Vieria changing it up. But anyway, I think Hughes has been a great buy for us and with returning players (Afcon/injury) will get better :-)

I wasn't keen on him joining us and when it took so long for PV to give him a start I suspected he wasn't making the grade.

But, I have to say that he has impressed me since he's played a few games. OK, there may be some flaws in his game, but generally he's made some good passes, some crucial tackles and he certainly puts himself about a bit. He's fitted in better than I expected and he'll learn a lot from PV.

I see him as a reasonable replacement in Conor's role, assuming he leaves us at the end of the season as expected.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Bit of a random statement but he delivers a far better corner than I have become accustom to seeing at SP.

I think Hughesw is a decent player, gets stuck in, can pick a pass and decent set piece delivery. He's no Michael Hughes, but a solid CM in my mind and I am happy to see him here. If it winds up any Watford fans also then that is just an added bonus.

I would like to add also, and finally - I think Hughes is a solid all round CM who would be a reliable cog in a well oiled machine. As it stands, we are not quite there yet and still learning in our transition but I am hopeful of PV getting us there.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I think he is doing okay but he tends to disappear when things aren't going for him.
Difficult to judge anyone on the first 30 mins against Liverpool - they ran riot and to a man we let them.
Generally he is okay and may need time to come out of his shell

My thoughts too. As much as I hate to say it, I'd have preferred to see Luka there in Kouyate's and Macca's absences. Having said that Schlupp had an excellent second half against Liverpool, but that was because we were on the front foot. Both Hughes and Conor played better when Kouyate or Macca was the other midfielder.

Agree with a lot of this, the balance is off and it isn't helping Gallagher or Hughes, with Hughes in particular having to play deeper.

I think the selection is more a reflection of how Luka is thought of that a genuine idea that this 3 works - that West Ham performance perhaps finally being the straw that broke the camel's back. Looking forward to having Kouyate back. I still think the Hughes/Gallagher/Schlupp combo is better than any with Luka in it.

Hughes has been great value. £6m for a 26 year old midfielder who looks comfortable in a mid-table side? No complaints, especially as he seems to have a bit of bite about him which we're short of.

I don't think he or we started well against Liverpool but to give them credit, their one touch stuff to beat our press in that first 10 minutes was sublime. I don't think anyone outside the top 6 would have lived with it.

Regarding Hughes I think he has impressed since is has got in the team. Absolute bargain given what we paid for him
