PV please note Eze is NOT a winger! Stuck out wide wastes his ability and leaves us virtually playing with ten men!

He’s not match fit and was labouring last night, but due to absentee’s we have little choice. African nations cup, injuries and covid are killing us atm.

It does appear he still has a bit of a way to go before getting back to full match fitness. You could see last night that he hasn't quite got back that relaxed ease of drifting past defenders.

Looks like a lost soul at the moment. Makes you wonder when players return how PV can squeeze him into the team or if he even wants to

His first start back for an awfully long time in a game where we were completely suffocated for around 85 of the 90 minuutes. None of the forwards were ever going to look good in that game. Given time and Zaha coming back to play on the left he'll get back to his best in a more central position.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

At times last season pre-injury he showed stunning potential, at others he was totally anonymous. I put the non-displays down to Hodgson's insistence on defensive formation above all else, which compromised Eze's style.
This season post-op and recovery he isn't quite match fit, and he never was the tackling type even before his injury. Psychologically for Eze it's been a tough call, but we will see the mark of the man if he can return to true form. Vieira has the tricky task of giving him (and Olise) match time without compromising the overall structure of the 11. Time will tell I guess.

He did look, last night, to be way off the form we came to love before his injury. Don't expect too much too soon lads. He did have a serious problem and his return was sooner than expected anyway.

As others have said above, Afcon, Covid and injuries are all impacting badly on us at the moment as well.

Olise was well snubbed out last night too. Other teams research and target our best players. It's why Wilf always followed closely by 3 players.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The boy missed a whole pre-season injured, it’s now a full half season through to recovery, and he would have to be exceptional to come back where he left off. A tough reception from Millwall, followed by an even tougher one from Brighton. In neither game was the mid field ticking over that well, yet he still did reasonable well in the conditions, he looks a little stronger, and is a little better in the tackle. Personally I would be pleased with him so far. II don’t know if anybody else noticed, but Jack Grealish, had a long spell out last season. It took quiet a few games before he was back to form. They are human, not machine .

Exactly! People saying he’s not up to it , realise he hasn’t played for Ages. Edouard also had little influence.

yes give him time plus didnt feel he was in the right set up , but did show that little drop of the shoulder and went past players easy which we come to admire last season , im not reading to much into his form needs another 3 to 4 games at least.

He'll come good we just have to be patient. Last night was his first league start since being injured. It was a very tough situation to come into and he obviously struggled to influence the game. But so did every other of our attacking players.

Eze was inconsistent last season until he finally took the number 10 position. Last night we were so deep for much of the game it was hard for Eze or Olise to influence the game. The question may arise whether Eze in the centre might mean Gallagher can't play so far forward, but long term Eze is not a winger and Vieira has already acknowledged that.
