According to old tradition your decorations should have been taken down yesterday, the 12th day of Christmas.

Do you throw them away and buy fresh every year or are you like me and hang on to them until they fall apart. I've still got some tree baubles that I remember as a boy, but I had to throw away some lights that gave up the ghost. Can't get replacement bulbs any more.

Oh well, back in the loft for another year.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Christmas is about tradition and continuity. I like some tatty old decorations around. We just add a few new bits every year.
It takes a week to slowly put them up and a couple of days to take them down, but the grandkids like it.

Took mine down on the 2nd....So a little early.

Mind you I've taken to being one of those outdoor lights and display show offs and I'm building up my stock.....when the weather beats one of them up it's pretty expensive to replace them.

But you get a lot of nice comments from the locals for a month.

In my close there are five houses on our side and six on the other side.

We are all minimalists on our side with just a rope light running across the front of the houses whilst the other side go the whole hog all looking like Blackpool illuminations.

Really the should put up their magnificent displays on our houses so that they can admire their own lights from their houses and we just get the rope lights on their houses to look at

Yeah, some houses are just amazing.
Been a minimalist myself for most of my life, but when you have small kids it's worth the effort.

Though maybe if these electric bills keep rocketing up I'll think differently on it in a year or two.

Next you'll be telling us you've bought a Burberry baseball cap.

No fear of that.

I have a particular dislike of baseball caps.

I do have an old fashioned bowler hat....which I have a certain, rare wearing, fondness for.

People who know me would readily testify that I am a grinch and a 'Bah Humbug' and have been for many a year.No Christmas tree, lights or decorations in our abode for as long as I remember.

Some while ago we gave all our Christmas tree decorations to our daughter who delighted in placing them on the tree when she was young. This year she was assisted by her delightful 2 yr old girl putting up these same old decorations on to their tree.

Heart warming.....I hope everyone enjoys their Christmases but still when the little ones are around it gives it that bit extra.

I've just put back in their (original) box the last 3 surviving glass baubles from Woolworth's,bought by my parents in 1952.

Not mean, just nostalgic - and can't believe that half the box has lasted 2 generations and at least 5 house moves!

I like old school Decs & my wife loves to decorate the interior & exterior of the house.
we have 2 xmas trees in different rooms, decorated to different times.
front room is 50s/60s, living room 80s/90s.
we never throw anything away and have our own stuff & decs going back generations.
I love it.

Wow, seventy years.

Kind of a family heirloom.
