A lots been said over our inability to defend set pieces but with the inclusion of tomkins and probable training ground tweaking it seems to be improving.I think that criticism by the football pundits of our defence is slightly unjust as 9 premier league sides have conceded more goals and another two the same so our defence is certainly better than most

But ironically we defend well at open play but collapse at set pieces... which is where you would expect the training ground to have made us less porous. Get that sorted and we will have an even meaner defence which research proves is the route to success.

Is that the McArthur that could barely manage 45 minutes on the pitch at the end of Roy's tenure? The same McArthur that that's looked like a man revitalised under Vieira?

I don't think our defensive qualities are our best ones and are not the main reason why we conceded less goals than previous seasons. I think the key has been that we have maintained much higher possession stats and kept the ball away from our box for longer. I think the fact that we continue to concede too many goals from set pieces and concede late goals when under pressure confirm the above.

It is true that our defenders do not concede possession like the old guard did.

If you include the front 3 in a 433 (and I have done since both Son and Salah are wide players in a 433) then our strike force scored 34 goals in the PL, somewhat more than the two golden boot winners. So I'm not quite sure what your point is in referring to Son and Salah.

Our midfield scored 13 and our defenders a miserly 3 (Guehi 2 and Tomkins 1)

It is worth saying that our set piece defending improved through the season. Vieira learnt. Important.
