Ayew has not scored for us since his wonder goal v West Ham on Boxing Day 2019.
Since then, my main memory of him is missing great chances to nail matches - like the miss v Brighton that would have sewn up the win.
Now today.
And I don't see why Patrick is playing him ahead of Olise or Eze.

His last goal was home to Leeds last season. Overall point is valid though. He offers no threat at all. The defence of Ayew as a hard worker or carries the ball well are wearing very thin.

We have more than enough options on the bench and the U23’s not to keep persisting with a player who clearly isn’t up to the level.

Ayew gets all flack for not scoring, but its his close control and ability to win fouls which is why he is played.

Those fouls he draws, buys us recovery time.

In my opinion it's Wilf who should be coming in for the flack, moaning and groaning at the team for not passing to him.
When he does get it he puts his foot on top of the ball, giving defenders time to swarm around him and lose possession.

I would like to know the stats between him and Ayew, as to who is most beneficial on the pitch.

I've just heard the post match interview with Vieira where he commends Ayew's effort, but says again he has to take his chances.
Does Ayew's bard work compensate for his lack of quality in the final pass or finishing?
In my view I wouldn't have him in the starting line-up in preference to our other options, but I can see that he performs a squad role with occasional starts.
I suppose the real question is how long it takes for Olise to get up to speed and /or for Eze to regain his fitness.
On a separate issue I would like to see Edouard given a run in the centre forward role with proper service into the penalty area.

the forwards do not get proper service now so why would putting Edouard up front make any difference ?

I thought ayew was excellent today. He is never going to score many goals. But winning challenges, leading defence from the front , working his butt off, he is a key part of the team against better opposition

Agree on all fronts. PV's suggestion that, the miss apart, Ayew was 'fantastique' doesn't suggest he's about to drop him though. I'm afraid I've always thought of Ayew as a player who was great for £2m!
Olise and Eze need to start and I cannot for the life of me understand why Edouard is not an automatic starter.
Time to drop Zaha. indeed, it was time to drop him some time ago. He'd a brilliant impact sub.
This Everton game is crucial. Lose it and the self-doubt will be rife.

although Ayew is not now a guaranteed goal-scorer, i guess many of our good results did have him on the pitch ?

not deserving of a start every week, not not yet ready for the sh1theap neither.

Radical idea. I'd experiment with Ayew as a replacement for McArthur while he's out. At the moment, Ayew's strength is his defensive effort. He's not as fit as Macca, but he would press more effectively than our other midfielders, except for Gallagher, and it would free Gallagher to play more as he did when paired with Macca.

i would be reluctant to crucify any Eagle after a bad day at Old Trafford.

its all about the trend over time. Ayew ? for me, undecided.

Benteke.....misses sitters all the time. But then again, he did score a few.

Gallagher is better than these two combined.
