Sir Geoffrey Cox appears to have taken to the British Virgin Islands while the rest of us were in lockdown, lovely Caribbean sun, and got over a Million pounds for it! The question is, while other mp"s were busy at home organising food parcels and checking on the actual jobs an mp does in a once in a lifetime crisis, Sir Geoffrey was in court, in his other role, defending the British Virgin Islands government,AGAINST the government he was elected to serve, namely the CONservatives! Anyone else think its a bit rich(over a million to be exact), not being on the front line at home in a crisis, picking up your 400k salary inc expenses, and earning a million plus in the Caribbean, fighting against her majestys government case against corruption?(The irony). Can I just save a few posters the trouble by answering their questions before they post? No, i"m not jealous, no, nothing to do with a typical lefty, and whats tony blair got to do with it, this is now, real time, and the sleaze and corruption are unprecedented!

You couldn't make it up. Allegiance to the pay packet rather than the public.

Hard to disagree with any of that. An utter disgrace. Naturally, I see the entire lot as rotten but none of which alters the reality of this and what it means for the Government of the day.

Not defending him as its well screwed up but what is legal aid if it isn't the same thing?

Thing is, he should have been home looking after the old folks food parcels, not sunning himself in the caribbean, earning a million, taking on HMG. Legal aid is just representing someone who might be innocent, giving them the chance to prove it, Sir Geoffrey was defending corruption against our own gov, whom he is one of. The fact that he wasn"t at home in a national crisis sorting out the old folk is a joke, but I know you get that.

So were they guilty then? Surely that's the point of legal representation. It doesn't matter who pays and who it's against; surely the correct outcome is what matters!
If that changes with who represents who and at what cost, legal aid has to be questioned; and I know you get that!

Touche! Sir Geoffrey is guilty of one thing, not spending enough time working for his constituents, while taking the full packet plus expenses, over 400k,nice work if you can get it!

So the Internet hasn't reached croydon yet I guess!
what MP wants a good stabbing when it can be done from anywhere other than his office. I didn't advocate for where he is but I would note you didn't answer the question. If you are accused of something and need legal help let's hope its not a brief with two jobs. God forbid.

It's less the job that gets people goat, and more the fact that he was specifically working against the financial interests of his own country and getting paid handsomely for it. And all of the time using his office and status as an MP to generate vast income for himself. He managed to find 10,700 hours since going into parliament, earning £5.5 million. I wonder how many hours he dedicated to his constituents, assuming they could track him down.

It does appear that almost all MPs with second jobs and the vast majority of the several million swept up by them is from the Conservatives, which was news to me actually, as I'm considered that to be the pushed 'stereotype' rather than the reality. But in any case, any tightening of the rules to put constituents first would strengthen the system as a whole, so hopefully that will happen rather than it blowing over, which would be a green light for it to continue or worsen.
