I've been extremely impressed with him in recent weeks and noticed that he was also singled out for praise on MOTD last night so thought I'd start a thread. Obviously it's hard for any player to stand out in this team at the moment with Gallagher playing so well but I think he's been getting better and better. Good running with the ball, hard working and clearly versatile as well. Once he starts finding the net more regularly, I reckon we'll have another real star on our hands.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

I have to say I did wonder how versatile he could be when he signed. For Celtic he criticised as not being a team player. But his contribution across the pitch has been fantastic so far. Back defending when needed and his off the ball running has been a joy to see.

He would clearly prefer to be our centre forward and palying in Benteke’s central position, however he is doing extremely well playing out wide until such time as he is given the main strikers role.

Edouard seems to have an exciting unconventional style to his play. From his games for Celtic you can see he is good in the air and a great finisher, an all round effective goal scorer. But he has great close control and seems to be able to ghost past people almost Eze like at times. He also links up with his team mates so well and plays passes and through balls that are often timed and directed differently to what seems to be the obvious or natural choice. Defenders don’t know what to do with him or how to play him at times and it has added a new dimension to our play, unlocking the door in more unconventional ways and creating ‘different’ goal scoring opportunities than we have been used to these last three or four seasons.

I think tekkers has upped his game this season. (seems like the sort of player who needs a kick up the bum with either needing a contract renewal or a viable possibility of losing his place). I think most of us have seen it as a bit of surprise to see Edouard out on the right wing. Most of us did feel that Ayew was a short time option until Olise got up to speed (Olise is a kid after all he needs some protection and to be carefully managed into being a first team regular). But Edouard has been extremely good and I think it is the beginning of the end for Ayew.

He's definitely improving with each game he plays. Gets into good positions and makes effective runs. But, for me, he isn't scoring enough from the chances he creates. I always wanted to see him replace Benteke, however the two of them appear to be a solid pairing. Unfortunately, neither are prolific in front of goal.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Question is whether you play him with Benteke, so we have two out-and-out strikers. However it's interesting that he is dropping back and making runs like Olise or Gallagher, so he's also replicating their roles. What will Patrick do when Eze is fit? Play him alongside Gallagher and drop Tekkers? Both Eze and Gallagher are proven goal-scorers so maybe we don't need both Tekkers and Edouard on the pitch together. Mentioned to my mate during the 2nd half to watch his movement when we get it at the back. He's constantly looking to make a run, then checks back when it doesn't come his way, looking to make a run again. He must be difficult to play against. I think he'll be found more often if Wilf and Olisse/Eze can play alongside him regularly. Benteke's a different type of player and has a role undoubtedly, but the potential is exciting as the season progresses.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
