I had a waking nightmare the other day.

I was thinking what we wil do when either of our CB's are injured, as they inevitably will be at some point.

Who do we have that could stand in and be able to play the PV way, passing from the back?

I shuddered.

Kouyate? Tomkins? Kelly?

Neither Kouyate nor Tomkins have looked comfortable in the few matches (including pre-season) in the PV system. As for Kelly, who knows? He doesn't seem to have been good enough to play for the first team for a long time now. The one possibility (if he ever gets fit enough to play again) is Ferguson - but then we haven't seen if he can even play at PL level.

It is a worry.

Blimey, talk about glass half empty. I know we'll have to find appropriate support if any player is injured, but it is a tad reassuring that we do not seem to be as smitten by injuries as we were in the previous regime.

Maybe things have changed for the better on the training ground.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I think another centre back signing will be a priority in January. We cannot rely on an injury prone Tomkins and Kelly who has barely played for 2 years!! as our back ups. Kouyate plugs a hole now and again, but it is clear we are short of cover there.

Ha Ha.

Yes, I am a worrier when it comes to Palace, I'll agree, yet I do feel it's a genuine concern since it's highly unlikely, I think, that that two CB's will go the whole season injury free.

My feeling is that we maybe will need to get in some appropriate cover in the Jan window.

No doubt someone, as you say, will step in but any of the three candidates would seem awkward with the ball at their feet and therefore vulnerable to pressing forwards.

No?

I agree it's a concern in the event of a medium/long term injury to our current CB's.

And further agree that the existing replacements don't inspire confidence in terms of how we now play.

Going into the transfer market is a tricky one...are we buying more cover or a player capable of challenging Guehi or Andersen for their places - which is what I think is needed.

the transfer window just gone I see as brilliant but also the minimum possible in order for us to take this step forward. I'd expect that DF is looking at the sort of injury cover options that will fit into this new style of play, and they have prioritised where cover is needed. This is just going to be one of those things we need to deal with and may hamper our progress if/when it does happen but it not terminal to the overall project. Injuries happen and clubs deal with them all the time. PV will have an interim tactical solution for any injury crisis.

Its going to be v difficult, depending on the position.

We've shown that we can operate without Wilf. And with Eze coming back into the fold we've got some decent cover/options for the front 3 (Wilf, OE, Benteke, Olise, Ayew, Eze),

We've got Luka cover in CK, and Macca/Connor cover with Hughes.

Decent keeper replacement in Butland, and RB cover with Clyne.

LB we are short and whilst we have a few CB, I also am not convinced that they could do what we now need a CB to do.

Lets hope that as well as some more points on the board we look to add a couple in those positions that could cause huge problems.

Schluppy can cover for LB &(imo) we have a fairly decent ball carrying CB in the U23's . . . Midlands Eagle favourite named player, Rich-'baggypants' Bagheulou.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Think they are good cover ; could always play 3 at the back

I think that, defensively, they are good players, too.

However, the point I'm making is that I'm not so confident in their abilities with the ball at their feet, doing what the current centre backs are asked to do by PV.

Are you?
