Tony Blair just been on TV this morning, saying Greta trots out her own version of Blah Blah Blah. Blair just high-lighted the disparity between developed countries making progress and the developing countries being more polluting than ever.

Two topics immediately came to mind for me.
1. The air industry has taken a battering from Covid. How can you encourage an industry which so heavily pollutes, when there are not really any viable alternatives ?

2. Natural resources like the South American rain forests. How to protect these resources, whilst defending a Governments rights to exploit them ?

And at Local level Croydon Council see the Environment as an opportunity to swell the bank balance.

"A council declared bankrupt a year ago fears it will lose millions of pounds if motorists “wise up” about where they will be fined when driving in low traffic neighbourhoods.

Croydon Council expects to make £11.8 million over the next three years from fixed penalty notice fines issued by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras catching those driving through roads recently closed to traffic.

The South London borough has been awarded £975,000 to create seven low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) after Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, introduced his “green transport revolution” last May to promote walking and cycling.

However, opponents say the schemes are being used as a “cash cow”.

'Risk of compliance'
At a recent council meeting, Steve Iles, Croydon’s director of public realm, said £11.8 million of “income growth particularly from camera enforcement” had been “built in” to its three-year budget forecast.

But Councillor Robert Canning expressed concern that the cash injection could be lost if motorists obey the rules.

He said: "Is there a risk that motorists will start complying with restrictions that apply, so the revenue that we are predicting for the next three years won't actually be obtained because motorists wise up to the restrictions and start complying? Is that something we need to worry about?"

Mr Iles conceded that “there is a risk of compliance”, but said civil servants had “factored” the “significant hike” in fines into their budget projections.

I was in Glasgow 6 weeks ago the locals are not happy as roads have been blocked off and rerouted for months all for this conference and for Nicola to strut her stuff. The cabbie gave me an earful of how difficult it is to get around the city at the moment.

HMQ is correct politicians will turn up sign anything and then ignore it. Meanwhile our dopey government will force us to wear the hair shirt.

One more point

I live in Asia in all our village's we do not have rubbish trucks coming around collecting rubbish we just burn plastic bags and all our rubbish every night, also my farms I burn every year, its mainly whole Asia does in rural districts, but we have people come around collect glass bottles, tin, and plastic bottles like cooking oil etc and they pay us for buying them off us.

Yes yes yes but the majority of people don't give a stuff.
