Plenty of experts on here when it comes to naming the Palace squad, so what are you going to do with England now you've got the job? They don't exactly fizz as a cohesive unit do they? Watching them play is rarely an uplifting experience.

To start with you'll obviously drop Kane. But who to replace him with? Do you stick with Grealish or is he over-hyped? Does Rashford fit into your team and what about Foden? Shaw looks good in an England shirt, but do you stick with Pickford in goal?

Southgate tried to pick an attacking formation, but it misfired. So, who fits in your team?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Potentially an unpopular opinion but the biggest issue for me is Declan Rice.

Really talented defensive player, but cannot make the midfield ‘tick’. He is great out of possession but not great with the ball. He also doesn’t seam to want to take the ball off the CBs and be the one to dictate play.

IMO Jordan Henderson needs to play alongside him to get the midfield working.

No need for any panic or major changes - this squad reached the final of the last tournament and will be trusted with at least the next one.

Kane, though woefully short of form, is still far and away our best striker - Abraham and Watkins both good players but a clear step down.

Kalvin Phillips was a big miss in midfield and he's probably the person who's done best our of the recent internationals - his absence was really felt. I'd like to see Bellingham get more minutes when one of Rice/Phillips are absent.

Sterling is the one who's starting spot has to be under fire - there's so many options in wide positions, and if he continues to be a squad option at City, hard to imagine one of Foden, Saka, Sancho, Rashford or Greenwood don't creep in front of him for the national team.

Grealish looks like he needs a rest but should be a shoe-in to start.

Not sure how Sterling gets minutes in The team. He's been playing crap for ages. that's why he's NOT playing for Citeh atm.
He had a huge impact on the England performance in the Euros but only in the Group stages. By which time many saw him as undroppable. The statistics may show that he was a positive influence on the team (scoring the goal vs Croats & Czechs), but I think that with a different player on the pitch (Grealish was the man at The time...and Probably still is) then our overall performance would have been better.

This england teams got a lot of issues.
GK: Really impressed with Johnstone's cameo in the warm up game. but JP for all his flaws just edges it for me on Experience.

Defence- that actually seems pretty solid. can play 3 or 4 relatively easily
Maguire and Stones with Walker in a 3 or
Maguire and Stones with Shaw and any Of James/AWB/TAA, or any of our 5000 RB's we seem to have in this Country.

Midfield- we start running into Problems.
Rice + Phillips? they were the best thing about the Euros....and Rice only had one good Game (the final....when he was subbed off). Cant' help but think that this pairing is ultimately all too defensive. tough shout, but I'd go Bellingham over Rice.
After this, the rest are glorified attackers, with no fixed position.
Grealish on current form and performances has to be there, but who he plays with??
Foden? another one who hasn't (yet) performed for england.
Sancho? needs an end product.
Mount? just don't know what he brings to the party. anonymous in an England shirt.
Rashford gets in my side all day long. Well, he used to until this School meals thing started. just not the same player atm.
Sterling? see above
Then there's the Striker Conundrum.
Kane is crap.
DCL is a poacher, does that fit ?
Greenwood? would love him to be the guy.
Ings - a Lot of time for Ings, natural finisher.
we need Alan shearer or Ian Wright. what we've got don't come close.

literally 4 months ago we got to our 1st major final in over 50 years.

We did pretty well in the euros - effectively a home tournament. We had an easy route, but beat everyone to get to the final fairly convincingly using Plan A.
Can't really ask more than that.

It didn't work in the final and GS Stuttered. Hopefully everyone will learn from it and become better next time.
That's no reason to become complacent and ignore the talent coming through. plus there's only so long the likes of Walker and Tripper can continue. One of GS's major successes has been to integrate upcoming talent, this is an evolving process and should continue.
