Just booked my flights and bought my ticket for Newcastle @home in late October. Will arrive in Heathrow this time (currently no flights to Gatwick from Vienna). Any ideas about the best/fastest way from Heathrow to Croydon by public transport on on a Friday late afternoon? Mate mentioned a bus line going directly from Heathrow to Croydon but I'm not sure if this is faster than via tube and train from Victoria. Suggestions welcomed, tks!

There is a bus, X26 takes approx 1hr 45min. As for train/tube/train takes approx 2hrs 15min journey plus 20min for wait time, also expensive. Hope this helps.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Friday late afternoon can be awful for traffic Hannes. Finding the bus can also be complex. Heathrow is big and has multiple terminals. No way between Heathrow and Croydon is particularly quick sadly, however, the Piccadilly line to South Kensington then change for the Circle and District line to Victoria, Victoria to East Croydon is a decent option. It will take no more than 1hr45 if you get a fast train to East Croydon, it will stop once at Clapham. When I last came back into Heathrow uber wanted a fortune, so I went to Hounslow East and then booked one from there and the cost was less than half the price due to a surge within Heathrow. On a Friday this journey could take 1hr45 too, but will cost £40+ Good luck ❤️💙

The Heathrow Express (HEX) is very quick, something like 15 minutes into Paddington. I’d then be looking at getting to Clapham Junction where I’d change for an overground to Selhurst.

Perhaps Express bus to Gatwick, then fast train to East Croydon? May even be an EasyBus Edited by Spiderman (26 Sep 2021 9.24am)

I did that journey every week in 2015 and I'd say tube and train to East Croydon every time.

Heathrow express to Paddington then tube to Farringdon (at least 2 lines) then Thameslink to Brighton stopping at East Croydon. Journey time 1h hour 15-20 mins. Edited by Badger11 (26 Sep 2021 10.26am) You’re right Badger, Farringdon from Paddington would be a better bet than Clapham Jct. I use the Thameslink service most weeks (East Croydon to Peterborough) and that Farringdon to ECR train is very good. I would not use the tube from Heathrow into Central London. It takes around 50 mins on a filthy bone shaker carriage, when the HEX takes only 15 mins into Paddington and is quiet, smooth and very comfortable. Edited by Phil’s Barber (26 Sep 2021 10.42am)

If this fuel nonsense carries on then I’d keep off the roads as much as possible or you could get caught in a fuel queue and the area gridlocked until the petrol station has emptied.

Tks to everybody! Think I will take the HEX - tube - Thameslink option. Actually I won't be in a hurry (minutes won't matter) but I try to avoid spending hours in London´s rush hour on a bus. COYP, Hannes.
