Huge development. Leaving the EU, and France especially, seething. What is AUKUS... Saw an interview with the French Foreign Minister and if the sub-titles are correct, then not a happy bunny in the slightest. Edited by Matov (17 Sep 2021 7.26am)

Apparently Aukus is a conglomerate of Oz, US and UK who are going to build nuclear submarines to patrol the Channel and do the job the French can't, in stopping the migrants.

If we were still in the EU then I could sympathise with the French, but we're not. Don't forget they blockaded one of the channel islands illegally a few months ago. Personally I'd deploy an armoured division in Calais just to remind them of their responsibilities.

Stab in back was because of a cancelled submarine contract consequent of this alliance. If you lost a E50B contract you might also be miffed. In terms of military alliance, it may have been sensible to include French ships and subs in this arrangement. They are an important ally, their trade routes are as important to them as us, and they are the only sensible military presence in the EU. This is actually good for France and New Zealand wisely distancing from this Biden entrapment. The French lose an order, they also lose duplicitous Oz, the UK and are not a USA puppet. Biden will ditch us and Oz without a thought when it suits him, as we have recently seen. China is right these countries are trying to re-live their cold war fantasies when they were important but are no longer. Nuclear submarines Russia and China already have them, it is years down the track and the Oz ones will not even be armed. The UK should stay away from China it is not in any way a threat to the UK, a geriatric US president desperate to restore his reputation definitely is.
