To qualify you have to have enjoyed the status Zaha has done though less of late. I think there is a seminal list although nobody's done a hall of fame to my knowledge. Peter Simpson was pre war, I can only start with Johnny Byrne, nobody else in the claret and blue days apart from John Jackson and Don Rogers. Peter Taylor, Kenny Sansom, next would be Ian Wright, Lombardo, Andy Johnson just (Glenn Murray no - he is a legend but he was never our 'star player'. And the last in the list is Zaha, with a few newbies showing possibilities.

So that's

Simpson (clear all time top scorer - gotta be in)
Byrne
Jackson
Rogers
Taylor
Sansom
Wright
Lombardo
Johnson
Zaha

That makes ten! Can any veterans among you add to the list? Or would anyone care to quibble?

Difficult to argue with your list ex hib. Glad Teddy added Vince - he would be on my list.

Also think Kember and Speroni are worth adding.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I can’t remember much of what he actually did but Alan Birchenall seemed like a star when we signed him.
Nigel Martyn had star quality.

I recall regarding Ronnie Allen as a star in the early sixties. Blimey, 60 years ago.

Andy Gray, Eric Young, Dave Swindlehurst?

A very good list, I have to add Bright as rather like Morecombe and Wise you have to think of a duo.

great call, thank you for educating me - the replacement for Budgie it seems, five caps and an amazing managerial record

Jim Cannon doesn't qualify, and there is no bigger fan of him than me, but like Glenn Murray he is a legend but was never the 'star'.
