It's hard to believe how time flies. Tempus Fugit.

whatever you believe about her death....

- a random accident
- a conspiracy
- a stupid drink-driver
- a paparazzi motorbike
- other

Personally, i hate drink drivers and believe the punishments should be stricter. And the enforcement.

With the hindsight of 24 years....Looking back at Diana and her legacy. Who would have believed that :
- Charles would still only be Prince ?
- Mohammad Al Fayad would still be pining for a British Passport ?
- Diana's kids would be estranged ? etc etc.
- Prince Andrew got himself into a spot of bother
- Granny Diana would now be old.
- Prince Philip would outlive Diana's age by 64 years.
- Prince Charles would only lose a first parent at age 71
- The Queen looks the same for 24 years, same hat, same face, same voice.

what other observations, comments, or questions ?

Only that her death, and the funeral in particular, started the death of the UK as we know it. All that flower laying followed by the stomach-churning sentimentality changed this country forever and not in a good way.

The British form of Stoicism that enabled us to achieve all sorts perished in that tunnel in France along with that lady, who by all accounts was a genuinely nice person so my take on it all is not a personal attack on her but what followed damaged us all forever.

Our collective stiff upper lips withered to be replaced by what we have masquerading today as 'modern' Britain. Lost our spine. To be replaced with rainbows on Police cars.

-Palace's season would have collapsed in typical comedic disarray, but not to worry because 24 years later we would be re-established as a Premier League club

We will never know but I think if she had not died her life would have mirrored Princess Margaret.

In her youth Margaret was a fashion icon like Diana but as she hit middle age and the stories of her personal life emerged she became a tragic figure in a downard spiral drink drugs sex etc. A woman who chose wealth over love.

Diana was heading in that direction with her "friendships" I doubt she would have married Dodi but like Margaret just moved onto the next available cab probably becoming an embarrassment to her then adult kids who she loved.

As they say in Hollywood when a fading star dies, good career move.

A lot in that. On the Sunday in question, the tabloids were all due to run very negative stories about her. Her star was very much on the decline and I suspect it would have gotten a lot, lot worse before it got better.

My own prediction is that she would have probably ended up marrying again, some kind of minor aristocrat and faded into the background. Living up in the Cotswolds and doing charity work. Or so I like to think.

Launched us into the modern communication era. But as Matov says, not in a good way.

The hysterical mob grief-by-proxy
Peddling of souvenirs and bunches of flowers
The "I was there" mentality
Queueing for hours to sign some meaningless books

Some fit bird upset the wrong family/establishment

I disengage, I turn the page.

Dodi died.
The dodo died.
Dando died.

Dido must be bricking it.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

What about rumours of her planning a pregnancy with Dodi ? Between him and previous lover Dr Khan, she showed a preference for a non CofE fella.

Imagine a half-sibling of the heir to the UK throne as somebody who prays five times a day and eats halal ? Charles, as head of the church, would never live down the shock of a pregnant diana. The history of royalty is all there to be seen. Henry viii , edward & missus simpson, cuckoldry does not bring a happy state of affairs.

At age 36 diana was well capable of rocking the establishment to its core.

Spin by Al Fayed.

When Diana divorced the succession was made clear her 2 boys by Charles and that was it. The tabloids would have made a big deal of it but as Meghan is finding out once you are out you are out.

If she did have a child with anyone they would not be royal in anyway, she was free to choose her future mate and have children with them Royal Family had no problem with that.
