Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Never heard of him but his input to the genre means he deserves some thought.
RIP scratch.

Heard the news around an hour ago,one of the greatest ever reggae producers and a true a artist in he's own right.

I spoke to scratch on the phone around 35 years when he was a guest on the Tony Williams reggae show on BBC radio London.

Spoke for around 10 minutes, proper legend.

Rest in power legend.

Where do I start. Was responsible for Bob Marley's early records starting in 1962 with early versions of Small Axe and Stir it Up etc. A true eccentric and genius who in recent years has been living in the mountains of Switzerland and wearing incredible colors in live performances well into his 80s. Really into his work with the Orb in the past few years. Forever young and truly 'out there'. RIP cosmic man.

Scratch's influence is everywhere. Orb, Killing Joke, Afrika Bambaata, co-produced arguably the Clash's greatest record - Complete Control and the main sample from Prodigy's Outer Space, that was Perry.

One of the few, the very few musicians who you could say changed the face of music forever.

From early reggae production through to dub to cosmic dub and much more.

He was a little 'eccentric,' and sometimes talked in riddles. I met him a few times many moons ago when he was recoding in South London and would wander the streets talking to anyone he came across. At the time he had cds as ornaments on his clothes.

Gone to the Black Ark in the sky where heaven has got a new sub beat.

And blew Ganja smoke over his master tapes, so they went to 11.

Was that Neil Fraser's Ariwa studio in Thornton Heath? I've been in their a few times to get the update on the best dub going on at the time.
