Hand wringing, virtue signalling and selective memory failure from someone who a month ago said we should get out of Afghanistan. The job of the opposition is to hold the government to account and suggest an alternate solution. Moaning doesn't quite fit the bill.

If you check her Twitter page it actually provides a lot of detail on the actions she would like to implement in Afghanistan, and those she believes should have been taken in the prior 18 months. If you don't like what's been set out, or don't believe such an action plan thats fine but it isn't "virtue signalling". Rather I think Dominic Raab staging photos of making a phone call he never actually made is probably a better representation of the term!

Honestly it's the laziest term - it's definition has basically broadened to 'anyone who has an opinion about anything that doesn't directly involve them'. Same label was thrown at MPs who actually served in Afghanistan and dared to call it a shambles.

Not defending the government either, the truth is this shambles is down to the US and the Europeans including us can't do much about it other than wring our hands.

Those pics were embarassing, the look of sincerity and concentration, lost in your own importance-with a photographer in front of you!
