Is he good enough to be playing in our Premier league starting 11?

I think he will make some appearances from the bench, when defenders are more tired. He has skill and has good acceleration but he's physically slight. Those initial appearances will reveal all. Edited by Stirlingsays (11 Aug 2021 2.16am)

Out of all the younger players on view in this pre season , he is the only one that has answered all the questions asked of him in a positive way. In every game he figured in he was pressured by some experienced pro,s and he rarely put a foot wrong in any part of his game. The Brentford ,B side was a really good test for him and for me was our main man.

Edited by Stirlingsays (11 Aug 2021 2.16am) The physique thing is a slight issue for me. The direct comparison I guess is with Wilf who was a similar build iirc when he first broke into the side. That said it may be simply the case that it would hold him back from his potential and not mean that he wouldn't be effective. He still has the skill to "break the lines" - he just can't power through them. I'm guessing this will be a known issue and there will be some programme to "build him up" not least because he was only released by Chelsea since he was too small. I'm hoping for appearances off the bench and regular squad picks. There was a thread a while back about Roy not blooding youngsters. For me the ideal scenario is not simply to throw them in and see if they sink or swim - Medieval trial by combat style. Better to introduce step by step. Learn about match day preparation with the squad, run outs for minutes to learn abut the physicality and pace of the game and then starts. AFCON we're going to be very short wide with Wllf, Ayew and Schlupp out- that could be the time when we need him most and he could be getting serious minutes. Another 4/5 months - that can be an age in the progress of a young player

Anyone who watched the game yesterday will tell you he actually appears to be a lot stronger than perhaps he has shown in previous games. A few times he out-muscled defenders. I don't think he's a starter yet due to a lack of defensive discipline, but from the bench he carries a threat with his pace and trickery. With Olise, Eze and Zaha there are some great players for him to learn from.

If he has indeed added strength - or I was just missing it - then as you say he could be close enough to becoming an option with tactical nous the most likely weakness.

Only one way to find out, if your good enough your old enough

Says a lot about this lad, that he now has his very own thread.

I've been wondering when someone was going to make a thread about this kid. I genuinely feel if we play our cards right and give him the time, care and attention needed he could become our Wilf 2.0.

Agree, in most respects, he will be lucky if he indeed was another Wilf, but he certainly is a quick learner with an abundance of natural talent. For those who have watched him for a while now it was always known he was pacy with a trick or two. Pre season has shown his light frame disguises an ability to retain the ball well even when faced with a two /three man press. Not just tricking or muscling his way out but passing out with intelligent use of team mates.
