So the CONservatives have come up with an idea to get the schoolkids learning again, a £4 million venture to bring back Latin! I know it might give Boris a chance to show off on tv with a few Latin jibes, but surely getting the kids to master the English language and basic maths would be money better spent. If not these, put it towards more Mandarin teaching, this will be far more useful in the future.

I dont think its such a bad idea. Some kids will feel they have a point to prove. It's different and It could help to understand basic English as most of nowadays words and sayings evolved from Latin. Could interest a few more than you think. 4 million on the education budget is not a great deal in the bigger picture. Admittedly it won't equate to job prospects in a practical sense but to an employer it could be an ice breaker.

Apparently Boris wanted to bring in a few other outadted practices- exempli gratia-fagging, but after careful consideration, it was thought our inner city comprehensive kids might not play ball! exempli gratia, see what i did there mate? why not just put eg? Proves my point.

No it didn’t. English isn’t a Latin language. Yes and no. English is Germanic in structure, but around 60% of words have their origin in Latin and the other Romance languages. So there.
