According to this report it's a possibility.

Here's part of the report:

The government has already pledged to end smoking in England by 2030 as part of a range of measures to tackle the causes of preventable ill health.

In comments first reported in the Mail on Sunday, Philip Morris International's (PMI) chief executive, Jacek Olczak, told the newspaper: "I want to allow this company to leave smoking behind."

He added: "I think in the UK, 10 years from now maximum, you can completely solve the problem of smoking."

Well, maybe....

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

So the UK is the world now is it.

Not going to happen World wide.

I don't care what the UK does anymore most of it is about controlling people who do not even see it happening or to move in direction so someone else gains it has nothing to do with a better life for normal people.

As A child which was very long time ago they was stating the move away from fossil fuels in next 10-20 years over 50 years have past still using them

Great, we can't financially support everyone now so lets make and I mean make people live longer to suffer a long and cold and hungry final few years. Feck em I say. There's a lot more die and get ill from stress than fags anyway. What will they do about that, employ a clown each to make us happy or chuck us a bag of gear a day.

That's right cryrst. Soon there won't be anything left to die of, and the world will be choc-a-bloc with old people who can't walk anymore because knees ain't designed to cart you around for 120 years.

They missed a right trick in finding a jab for covid.

So true. But it’s happening right under our noses.

I'm surprised anyone still takes the trouble to smoke anyway. There are precious few places left to indulge the habit and, buying them is akin to buying p*** with those plain packets and the goods hidden behind shutters. And the cost ...

You’re absolutely right Pete but having just sparked one up I can say I still enjoy them after 46 years of smoking. The only problem is that beer still doesn’t taste quite right without them.

Smoking and the internal combustion engine are two major sources of tax revenue. In the indecent rush to eliminate both, what are the government's plans to replace these very lucrative and important income streams, if indeed they do have any?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I'm far from a fan of smoking; it's wiped out several members of my extended family. That said people need to be able to make their own choices in life. For all the harm it does the effects often don't materalise for decades, and so any argument that can be made about smoking could be made about food or drink too. We are all too eager to hand over our personal autonomy to the government and they're more than happy to oblige.
