I recall the coin toss was used in European competitions back in the 60s when after a replay the scores were still level. Not that I am advocating a return to such a method even though England might well benefit from it!

No really. Some are too complicated others are just another variation of a penalty. Attack Defender Goalie is an interesting idea the problem is that this will probably lead to a foul being committed / attacker diving and so to a penalty. The real problem is we can't find 5 Englishman who can take a penalty. I don't hear the Italians complaining.

The golden goal was on the right track IMO . Next goal wins with no time limit would at least give a team result instead of individuals shouldering the blame

The problem is that the game has to finish for TV so whatever method you use at some point the rules will state if the scores are still equal then penalties.

Winning team awarded 1 goal Play extra time with all goals scored counting double Therefore during extra time one of the teams is always behind which will stop negative extra time tactics. The team losing the penalty shoot out has 30 minutes to put things right. Less agony for the unfortunates who miss penalties as can redeem in extra time.

Get the right takers, Grealish, Sterling, Walker

Both teams have to drop a player at the end of 90 minute. Then keep dropping a player every 10 minutes

The first goal in extra time wins the game. TV coverage should not prevail over the way forward. Maybe this is just because I hate to see a game decided by penalties. But if we must have them, take them like Luka. As someone else has said, the hesitant run up and attempts to out-think the keeper are fraught with risk. Just blast it into the corner.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

However, who are coaches going to remove? The goalkeeper and all the defenders will be the last to be removed so there will still be a degree of negativity. It will probably be a bit farcical towards the end with hardly any players on a huge pitch, but more like a 'real' game of football than a penalty shoot-out.

Crossbar Challenge anyone? After 90mins everyone in the team can have a go.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Tie the goalkeepers' wrists to the centre of the crossbar and aim to hit him rather than score. Would be entertaining.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
