I used to do it in the summer. You seriously believe they'll be paying 20 an hour? Temporary permits or cash in hand will be the outcome. The farmer I worked for had millions upon millions but would still complain if we discarded one corn cob.

The problem is twofold. Supermarkets controlling the prices and supply chain. Farmers or agents including accommodation in a cr@ppy caravan as wages that the local people don’t need. People have been put off this because the deal is sh1t for the level of work, effort and hours. If it didn’t have the image of slave Labour it would get applicants.

There'll be lots of unemployed British farmers after the 'deal' agreed between UK and Australia, perfect resource for picking fruit & veg. Sounds like a masterplan from Johnson and his cronies.

The way the United States of Europe is going all potatoes will be grown in Poland anyway, and we’ll get to grow strawberries, cherries and asparagus. France will of course ignore quotas or be allowed to grow and sell what the fvck they want in France.

What could possibly go wrong?

No surprise to those looking from the outside inwards, still at least the 'Australia' deal worth 0.02 of GDP will boost the flag waivers confidence in the UK, something at last to celebrate! Just watch out for the hormone contaminated beef and lamb produced nice and cheaply in Australian farms, some of which are the size of Belgium.

The people who are p1ssed off are those who can’t live or retire on the cheap all year round in Spain. While I see their anger and frustration, it’s a selfish viewpoint and going to live cheaply abroad doesn’t stimulate the country they’re going to live in. They’re also living in a property that local people could own and probably inflating the property prices there as well. FWIW you can’t really fvck up Lamb and the beef you buy will depend on what you want to pay, because again, this desire to have what you want and think you deserve for a price lower than is feasible is artificial and part of a deal to give away any say in your own country more and more as time goes on.

How can Australia export beef and lamb to the UK - the transport costs surely make it impossible to be competitive.

I don't think imported meat from Australia will go down here with our consumers, who are becoming more aware of these practices. I don't think there will be enough demand here, you can't force people to eat what thy don't want. You would think Australia would be at the front of these and green matters, in fact they are woeful.
