I know we Brits are soppy about animals, but is there anyone who can't almost have shed a tear - as well as feeling a surge of anger - about the dog that was left to die under a pile of rocks in the Highlands? It had fractures in its skull and jaw, broken teeth and one blinded eye. He was found by walkers and has undergone 6 weeks of operations and treatment.

It's reported that the RSPCA has traced the owner but are unable to prosecute for lack of evidence. I know mob vengeance is unacceptable, but if I were one of the RSPCA inspectors, I'd be sorely tempted to release that person's home details on social media.

We love animals as they are loyal, non judgmental and always give a warm welcome.

Our pets rely on us for protection; not especially different from looking after a child really. Anyone capable of behaving in such a despicable way (whether it was the owner, or someone else), should face accountability. If someone can do stuff like this, I doubt there's much they're not capable of.

Exactly right. They know what acts of cruelty they can get away with. Depressingly, it looks like whoever did does too. Still, let's hope not.

A few years back I was working in Camberwell, stuck in a nightmare of a traffic jam, on the main high street. This skinny bloke came into view on the other side of the road he crossing the road with a lovely looking German Shepard beautiful looking animal,as they turned into a side road this bloke unleashed a rein of punches, kicks at this poor dog then pulled out a chain and whipped it two or three times. A couple of women came running over screaming and shout for the bloke to stop, as they got nearer this bloke ran at one of the women screaming and shouting to mind their own F**ing business then just laid into one of the women with some real sickening punches then started whipping her with the chain as she laid on the pavement. Bodies came from everywhere this bloke just stood there kicking this woman were she laid and then casually walked over to the dog and kicked the poor animal in the head before running off.
I found out a few weeks later that the piece of crap had been caught and arrested for attacking the woman but there was no mention about the dog cruelty.

Sometimes I really wonder if family are really worth it.
Because it doesn’t matter how time and affection you give
It’s never enough

Doesn't surprise me mate, I'm afraid. It goes to show the mentality of such people as I doubt anyone is cruel to animals in isolation.

Madness that for all practical purposes the maximum animal cruelty sentence is currently 6 months. It'll be raised to 5 years max later this month though for the most extreme cases.

May I suggest that a visit to The Retreat, Animal Sanctuary in Kent would open your eyes to some of the cruelty inflicted on animals. This is a charity but do not charge for entry, just voluntary contributions.
