Fit to fly PCR tests

My mother died last week of cancer. She was born in the Holmesdale Rd of all places, so you can imagine how Palace we all are. God rest her soul. Anyway, I'm coming over for the funeral which is at the end of the month. The question I have is that I need a PCR test and fit to fly cert before I can come back to Ireland. It has to be within 72hrs of returning (I know ridiculous). I won't have the car, I'm flying. So I was thinking of buying the home testing kit, getting it sent to where I'm staying, registering it there, testing myself and my missus, sending it off and, hopefully, getting the results in the required time frame. Has anyone got any particular providers who are any good - or rubbish that I bed to avoid? They all seem to be around 100 quid - which I can't avoid. Just looking for tips on who might be good or bad. I know there are a few globe trotters on the site so thought I'd ask.

Sorry to hear that about your mum. So far there is precious real information most of the travel sites refer you to the government advice which is generic. What we need to know is who will organise this for you and how much. Sorry not very helpful, I guess I would start with the airline you are thinking of using perhaps they have a deal? AS, check with your airline as most are doing discount PCR tests so you will fly with them. That said your are in an EU country, hence why you need these stupid tests, in the UK you can get the 'lateral flow' tests sent to you free of charge. With the way 'politics' are interfering, things are changing daily. Sorry to hear bout your mum(RIP)
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I have asked my wife who says this is a minefield, if you are staying less than 72 hours would the test you need before travelling to England not be valid? Also remember you have to have booked a Covid test for day 2 and day 8 of your stay in the UK before you travel ( even if not staying that long! ) I know it is ridiculous. Unfortunately she cannot assist with any decent providers. Probably best to discuss all with the airline. Good luck, sorry couldn’t be more help

As far as I can see, I don't need it for England as I'm in Ireland in the Common Travel Area. However, for Ireland I need one within 72hrs before return.

Sorry didn’t mean to worry you, especially in the circumstances. You may be right about CTA but if that is the case, why would you need one to return from the CTA? Perhaps Government website may help or your airline. Apparently some of the companies are complaining how busy they are. Apologies if I have worried you but this is a minefield and don’t want you to get caught out

Apologies if I have worried you but this is a minefield and don’t want you to get caught out Ireland has put it's own rules in and despite calls to relax the requirement for the UK, they aren't looking to do that until the end of the month. I have to self isolate for 14 days on return too. I think Ireland has managed to have the longest lockdown in the world. Shops open next week, imagine the rush.

London has many pick up and drop off points this is how I have been doing it (not cheap near £120 mark) but they tend to be more central London. The 72hr thing is not that big of a deal the testing is fairly quick now a lot of places will say they need max 48hr. I tried postal one it was a terrible experience many issues. This is a money making scam (I even know people who have made their own fit to fly plus test results up) The documents are emailed to you no physical copies unless the place you go to offers that but it tends to cost a fair amount extra. I would print them yourself I did this can't remember the print shop I used.

Shame so many have found the need to travel during a pandemic

You have missed another big point not all countries was soft touch Britain Thailand when I went was strict just the embassy alone was a lot of work then once you are their you are greeted by military keeping people separated i spend over 2 hours in airport you are then put on buses which take you to hotels you will have to stay in you cant leave your room for 2 weeks (at the airport they took another test sample and temp) Now I know some will say rapid tests they are a joke the pcr test is not 100% they are around 80% (still a poor test many factors why) the rapid tests uk use are 30-40% (Thai do have a form of rapid test but it still takes 4-6 hours and is done by blood test this is 70%)
