The Sunday Telegraph lead in Johnson plans to spend billions on Scotland including allowing Scottish patients to attend English NHS care.

Can I have a vote to give Scotland independence please, let them stew in their SNP nightmare.

I don't see the " Union " as some holy grail.

Why? Are you making some assumption about people who live in Hong Kong?

Presumably English kids will be able to attend Scottish Universities and avoid tuition fees and English patients will be able to get cheaper prescriptions from over the border?

Really, I think that the Scotland has made massive contributions to the UK economy, most of which wasn't invested in Scotland:

"Looking back over the past 40 years it is estimated the UK Treasury has benefited from offshore oil and gas production taxes to the tune of about £300bn (adjusted for inflation). Not all of that would have been from Scottish waters, but it is thought about 90% of it would."

And you don’t think Scotland have benefited from money from UK Government? My point was why should English students not benefit from cheaper Universities fees ( when EU students can)?

The article is from 2014 when oil prices were around $100 a barrel since then the prices has drop to $50 per barrel. The article is about oil revenues not how much the UK taxpayer has funded Scotland during this period.

I don't doubt that Scottish oil has played a massive part in the UK economy but if we are going to get historic then we should go back 300 years to the creation of the Union and work it out from there.

Oil prices are not likely to rise anytime due to the switch away from Petrol and diesel and it's running out. The SNP should not be basing their economic argument for an independent Scotland on it.

As for the extra money from the UK taxpayer this happens every time Wee Jimmy and her mates threaten to break away rinse and repeat.

Irrelevant, £100s of billions have been made by the treasury since the 70s and only a tiny fraction has benefitted Scotland from what are mostly Scottish resources. The insinuations are that Scotland doesn't contribute enough for what it takes from the treasury, which is far from the truth. It's already contributed enough through past oil revenues for many decades to come.

There will be billions spent on tory bribes to preserve the union.

Jut think of not having Westminster and the tories, at all.

Worth more than money could ever buy them.

It's only speculation in the Telegraph, the points about university fees is well made.

No one could explain to me why EU students could go to Scottish universities and pay a fraction of what other UK students had to pay. So the English taxpayer was subsidising the fees of non UK students. Wales and NI had some schemes too but can't remember the details.

Similarly the prescription charges, we should stop bribing Scots to stay in the Union.

An independent Scotland means no chance of Labour ever getting back in power, they still think they can win back the historical labour seats lost to the SNP.

And we don't have to suffer Blackford.

Sadly , it will never happen as they are economically unviable and have no currency

The EU students in Scotland was an EU law that all EU citizens are equal. Welfare and housing being the main one . There was a loophole in the law that you could exploit natives. Another loophole was Northern Ireland. My friend was a unionist from Belfast. She just got an Irish passport and the fees magically disappeared. Madness.

Spending billions to preserve the union will be less expensive and disruptive than the cost breaking it up.

We need a less London centric economy. Its a real shame the HS2 can't be extended up to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.
