Been following this. Interesting on a variety of levels, not least how the BBC report it. Stressing the 20 ex-generals as opposed to the huge numbers of currently serving military personnel.

Harboured a view for a while now that France would be the first major domino to fall (Belgium is probably even more likely but is a relative minow and is effectively already so cucked as to be not even worthy of consideration).

Reading the translation of the letter itself is a genuine eye-opener and makes you wonder what might happen over the channel in the next few years.

Interesting times.

this reminds me of the start of the Spanish civil War.

France has been badly run since at least 1940.

It does look like the situation is bubbling up to the boil over there.

Macron is the most unpopular President in recent history. I must say I'd be pleased to see him pushed out of power.

He was obstructive in the Brexit negotiations. He has since made an issue of our fishing rights. He was slow to deal with Covid and he was highly critical of the vaccine created here. Nasty, spiteful and jealous little man.

Not surprised his military are considering a coup.

You're so right becky. I'm sure he would side with the Napoleon option given the choice.

Yes, definitely some parallels. But the implications of serving officers and soldiers putting their names to this letter are incredible. Ex-soldiers spouting off is nothing new. Happens all the time.

But from people currently serving?

A lot of sacking is going to be required. I'm just not sure how the French system can con Le Penn out of being elected. It's an unfathomable system. As far as I can work out, it's a Presidential run off system with rounds for people to give up or be eliminated from the running. New candidates can come in at any round, I believe. I think it took 9 rounds of voting for Macron to be elected, with several parties throwing their weight behind him, just to keep Le Penn out. You can quickly see how a system like that can be manipulated.

The French system is odd but to their credit, they have severely clamped down on postal voting which for me is how elections in the West are most at risk from cheating.

But Le Pen does not need to win next year. That is the point. She makes it to the final round then polls in excess of 40% and effectively France becomes almost ungovernable. Even as things stand, there are serious issues with no-go zones in many of its major cities and the Yellow Jacket movement which has not gone away. I did read that something like 80% of the countries speeding cameras have been destroyed and the majority of those in rural areas.

Not a healthy nation.

Napoleon & Sarkozy.....the French like an angry little fecker in control.

And as for having a granny-f...cker ? with connections to the banking fraternity ? and him being another Socialist. What's there not to love about him ?

Maybe La Armée are the good guys in this contretemps ?

La France, one of the greatest old European nations, is rapidly turning into a Third World sh1.thole

Madame Le Pen supports the 20 ex-officers?

I think a serious miscalculation.

The french election system is deliberately designed to prevent an extremist candidate from left or right from getting power.

It has been very successful gone are the days when they had a new government every five minutes.

There's no reason to think we are governed better than they are, in fact quite the reverse.

Looks like post-brexit desperation to me.

Is France splitting up like the UK is likely too?

I don't think so.
