where the black referees ? where the LGBT referees ? You may be able to point out one or two exceptions. But the demographics of players seems to not be reflected in match officials ? Surely some new fellas could do better than Mark Clattenburg et al ?

They're all too busy being victims to do a referee's course. I can't see any reason other than their own reluctance, as they would be more than likely fast tracked through in order for the FA to be seen to be doing the right thing. Of course another reason there might not be many is that the ones who have tried are all cack at it ?

In this country, you need to start at 14/16yrs old to have any chance of making it up through the ladder of promotion to eventually the 'Elite' group of 30.

Black players have broken through to the elite. Not an easy feat.

Does anyone of colour actually WANT to be a ref? Why are there not ex-players as top flight refs? Did you know what you wanted to do when you was 14/15 or 16? See where im coming from?

This question is the same as the situation at the Oscars. Why weren't there more black actors represented? Maybe it's because they weren't good enough or they just made lousy films. Same with refereeing as others have said. If someone wants to ref (or do anything else for that matter) there's nothing whatsoever to stop them if they're prepared to work at it and they're good enough. Their race, colour or sexual orientation doesn't come into it and it's blatantly wrong to even suggest it does.

BME& LGBT..... Pah! Eleven years at the top, described as the top female by the FA, an MBE and they still won't let a woman referee a Prem match.

There are plenty of black players, so it of course makes zero sense that the reason behind there not being refs is because blacks act like 'victims' or are no good at refereeing. Pointless, sweeping 'blacks are victims or backward' contribution. The most likely answer is lack of representation, and so they are more geared towards playing rather than refereeing... and somehow, amazingly, don't appear to be 'cack at it'. There should be female premier league refs too, if only to annoy people like you.

I can't imagine for a moment that it's more difficult to become an 'elite' ref than it is to put in the effort to become some of the best football players in the entire country. I'd say that it's more that there are so few black referees that its not seen as something to aspire to.
