Green Party member of the House of Lords, Jennifer Jones, Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb, has said that she will propose amendments to law to have all men banned from being outdoors after 6pm to 'make women a lot safer' after the abduction and murder of Sarah Everard in London.
The Baroness was given a peerage and thus entry to parliament in the Lords after standing for the Commons in 2005 when she got 2,741 votes, 6.5% of the vote, and in 2010 when she polled 1,361 votes, 2.9% of the vote. She stood in the London Mayoral election in 2012 and polled 4.5% of the votes – losing her deposit.
Jones was appointed as a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority from its creation in 2000. In 2012 she called mayor Boris Johnson's demonisation of youth through the use of "baseless rhetoric on soaring gang-membership and rising knife-crime", suggesting the mayor created an unhelpful ‘climate of fear’. There was no suggestion then from her that curfews should be brought in for people that fitted some general stereotype. It is ok to demonise all men though.
Isn’t it great having such unelected people in positions of power - bit like being back in the EU.

Political grand standing by a nobody using the tragic death of someone to further her career.

I'm surprised she didn't use the politicians stock answer to unsolvable problems "we need more education".

Some people are just evil you can never legislate or educate for that.

Well, if she thinks that will solve her problems...

...just wait until social unrest and violence erupt as a result of her very obvious shortsightedness.

Are we in 2021 or 1984?

Curfews wouldn't be much good - extermination would though.

Obviously, her suggestion is self-serving bonkers. But...

Post has nothing to do with thread title. The green movement advocates strong environmental policies. This is just mental.

ON EU, correct me if I'm wrong but are not MEPs elected?

The Green Party is further to the left than Labour.

MEPs are elected, but they cannot propose or frame laws. Unelected EU Commissioners do that - it is like having the House of Lords making all our laws.

Interesting that there’s a there’s a thread about a comment a Green member of the Lords made which obviously won’t happen, but no thread about the actual incident that prompted the comment to be made.

Absurd suggestion - child abduction is predominantly done by women maybe they should be curfewed during the daytime?

Apparently the Baroness also favours gender self-identification...anybody see the flaw in her proposal?

The death of the young woman is appalling but what law could you suggest to prevent it happening? I get that women politicians are upset but her statement is akin to "something must be done"

130 women were murdered last year appalling but many in different circumstances. I see no point in lumping them together. Spousal abuse and stranger abduction are only comparable in that the victim is dead. The causes and reasons will not be the same.

By all means focus on practical areas which can help e.g. police ignoring battered wives and stalkers who go on to kill their victims. I don't see any obvious solutions to stranger murder by evil men.

How will the Baroness ensure that the human rights of the likes of Karen White are respected so that ‘she’ can be out on the prowl after 6pm? Ms. White identifies as a woman (birth name Stephen Terence Wood), is a convicted rapist - some of ‘her’ offences committed while ‘transitioning’ in a female prison.
