According to an item in The Sunday Times today about the results of a survey published by the ONS, residents in Croydon Is that you they're referring to?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

No, hate it.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

i once was Happy in Croydon, i am now happy elsewhere. missing the matchday at Selhurst. A pint & cheese-roll at the Legion and then up to the match. Croydon is a love/hate sort of town. You must embrace both or neither.

According to an item in The Sunday Times today about the results of a survey published by the ONS, residents in Croydon Is that you they're referring to? I’ve been living in East Croydon for 10 years and love it. Never experienced any problems. As far as I’m concerned, we have a great choice of bars (particularly in and around Surrey Street) and a lot of restaurants in South Croydon. It’s densely populated and has a business hub which is great for my work, and the commute to central London is less than 20 mins from my front door. Crucially, I can even walk to Selhurst Park, although I tend to get the 3 minute train. In my block of flats, we have a real community spirit and everyone gets on well. Lloyd & Park Hill Parks are particularly nice in summer. When we have a night out with lads, it’s usually Croydon these days due to variety of good bars and it’s transport links. Crime is high and always in the news, but the reality is that its usually gang/youth related and is easily avoidable. For me, the big negative is they way the high street has been allowed to deteriorate. Sadly, I think this will be more common around the uk as people now prefer to shop online. I can understand why it’s multiculturalism and population density doesn’t appeal to all, but I like Croydon.

We also have an enormous park that links to the hills with their great viewpoint. And the trams work well But hey, the HOL wouldn’t be the HOL without loads of moaning, especially about the younger generation.

I'm looking at the article now - and West Sussex rates healthier on the composite than Croydon. Not so sure. I know the report says we're healthier, but since I moved here 10 years ago I've been treated for cancer and been diagnosed with an incurable illness, which after 2 stem cell transplants, is thankfully on hold for the time being. I assume, however, these things would have got me wherever I was living. Still, happiier here than I would be in Croydon now. Never lived there, but started my working life at Croydon Airport in 1963 before moving to the RAC in Lansdowne Road until 1969. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed being in Croydon at that time, especially my forays to Under The Olive Tree club in South Croydon.
