Hmg are investing 100m in a taskforce to investigate the title. I'm glad because 1000s and 1000s have took the piss and deserve to get pulled up. I reckon the cost of this will be recouped many times over.

The Companies who have done it should be closed down and assets seized.

When this scheme was first announced I predicted widespread fraud only to be shouted down that this couldn't happen.

Anytime the government is giving money away the criminals are one step ahead of them.

I hope they catch the so and so's but doubt it, as for getting the money back, no chance.

....and put thousands of employees out of work. Good idea.
Prison for fraud is better and leave the businesses to be run by managers.

I see your point but the workers will get work straightaway and they shouldn't be doing it either!!!
Just report your bosses.
I have heard some stories in the building industry and if I can find out their names ........

Anyone caught will then be investigated for all the years gone by. Self employed who have done nothing wrong will be OK but the ones with big drums and Chelsea tractors may have to explain how on 30k a year.

The biggest claimants by far of furlough is the public sector. Biggest scam ever. How do you do gooders all propose sifting through millions of stay at home beuros? It ain’t gonna happen. There is no department in the government to chase any of these shmuzzlers. Just get over it and move on.

Why are the public sector workers in need of investigation?
Thousands of lazy gits for sure but sadly that is not a crime.
Furlough needing investigating are bosses claiming furlough money and making their employees work.
Bosses claiming money only to sack people without notice etc.
Much more of course.
It was run out too quickly - I totally understand why - and allowed to run on too long.
Loans are the other massive fraud area - I found out how they work - what great scam that is if you are so minded!

Also paye. All traceable so no problem. Self employed will be in a world of pain if they are proven to have committed fraud. Kill,rape,drink drive,drugs all have consequences yes, but touch HMGs dosh and you are done.

The issue with the self employed - they made it subjective "have you been effected by Covid" with no real defintion of what that means.

It does mean someone could have had two weeks off with Covid but earned 100% more every other week and they
would qualify.

However they also made it "self-certify" which means that you are personally signing for everything.

I hope they cut the bollocks off of anyone who has abused the system. If one of my clients did then I'd have reported them myself.

The Bounce Back Loans are a whole separate world of s***. Sign for one in your company, buy a new car for example and go bust - congratulations you've just made yourself personally liable for the debt.

Many self-employed did very nicely out of it - some warranted and some not.
A part of that was also the fault of the system - it was hastily and understandably rolled out and it was a blunt edged tool with little refinement.
I know of one man who got £7k straight up but he only didn't work for three weeks - he didn't want it but couldn't do it any other way - did he give it back - doubtful!
The system let some newly self-employed down very badly - they were cut off with little help sadly - again - a blunt edged tool.
Those who took the piss will get their comeuppance though - most anyway.
Sunak is after them and shortly long gone will be the days when you went to work in a tatty van but claimed for the nice Merc that your Wife drove.
He is after every bit of money that they are not entitled to and that is good thing - legit is fine - bent is not.

Business Interruption loans are a major scam as well.
I won't bore you with the whole thing here but I was offered one - didn't need it I might add but thought I would look into it.
I didn't take it on moral grounds really.
The Government won't even be counting their losses there yet because they currently have no idea what they will be but unscrupulous lenders and borrowers should be ashamed of themselves!
For those that needed one and who will pay it back then fine - the rest - watch this space - it will be a loss of billions when the time comes.
